View Full Version : Can you help me pick a podcast name?
Kidquotes
Aug 2nd, 2006, 07:21 PM
I am starting a podcast but I need some feedback on what to call it.
Subject is: witty kid quotes.
For example, a quote might be one of the following:
-They lived happily ever after and then they had to go to work. (Age 4)
-I wonder sometimes if we give God a headache (Age 8).
-You know it was a good day if you didn't hit or bite anyone. (Age 4)
-If your dog doesn't like somebody maybe you shouldn't either. (Age 8)
My problems:
1. I'd like to call it "kid quote of the day" but I don't want to be
tied to broadcasting one everyday--so I'm not sure if that would
misrepresent my show.
2. I DON'T want the name to sound cute, like it's just a "kid
show"--the quotes are aimed to be funny/witty to adult listeners, not kids.
I'm afraid if I just call it "KId Quotes"--people will think it's just
for kids.
The plan is a one minute show, and I want my title to be clear and simple.
What should I call it? I need some feedback. Help.
BTW/FYI I am a greeting card publisher of kid quotes. These are real
quotes by real kids who have been submitted to me.
THANKS A MILLION!

Witty kid quotes eh?
hmmm. . .
here's one I overheard the other day:
"Uncle Ted told me not to tell anyone or he'd kill my puppy."
As for a name.. .how about
"Kids, Love em or Drive 'em into a Pond".

Kid-Wits (-Podcast?)
By using my suggestion, you agree to tell at least 10 potentially interested people, who are not Podcast Alley users, about my show. 8)

Hi Kate,
A couple of thoughts:
• Pick a temporary name, and then hold a contest to rename the show. Might generate some buzz as well as a good name...
• Like you already said, keep it simple.
• I'm not so sure why you don't want the name to be cute, since your subject matter is cute. I would think that "cute" would be okay, gimmicky would not be (and there is a fine line between the two).
But since you asked (and I don't know why I'm not charging you for these ;) ):

Depending on how you get your feed out and hosting this can be good or bad. You probably don't want to be changing domain names and feed info because that can risk losing listeners that just found you, re-doing site graphics and feeds.
I had this idea when I started my show and now, 21 episodes later, it still has the same stupid name because changing it becomes too much work.

Here's a name that rhymes:
"5 in a tub, glub glub"
Here's another quote:
"Why daddy why?"
That last one was actually overhead in the basement of Jon Benet Ramsey's house.

Well, I was assuming that because the podcast is being set up by someone who runs a greeting card company with the same theme, that it would probably be hosted on and tied into the corporate site. If that's the case, the trickiest part of it all -- changing the domain name -- is eliminated. Changing a few graphics and the title in the feed is no big deal, as long as you plan on it from the beginning.

The answer is d) none of the above.
Here's a good title for a show:
"The Story of Scott Peterson - A Man and His Two Chums Go Fishing"

Oh, what a card you are. Too funny I say. The only thing funnier is a dead baby sitting next to a kid with down syndrome.

Sorry, I got nuttin’ either – and I think it’s a cool idea.
I would, though advise against the idea of a temporary name. Pick something and stick with it.
