Heard alot of people talking about promo's and stuff and was wondering 1. is this the right area to ask? 2. What benefit is a promo? 3. How long should one be? 4. What makes a promo stand out? 5. Where should one play a promo?

I know lots of questions but i think their useful. If i missed this in the forum somewhere im sorry.

I try to keep my promos under 30 seconds. I've had them played on other podcast, and on podcast networks. As for what makes it stand out, try to be original and entertaining.

Under 30 seconds is great - I've gotten some almost two minutes long, but that's ridiculous. Make sure that the promo explains what you'll expect to hear if you listen to the show. A good "bad" example is the one for C.C. Chapman's new show (sorry, C.C.), which was entertaining, but gave me absolutely no clue as to what the show is about, so I probably won't bother.

i want to start running promo's myself but.. id have to say 20-30.. the shorter it takes you to get your point across and make your impression the better...

So basically its someting like a commercial that other podcasters can use on their show or something you can put on myspace. Ok seems good.

Ours is 31 seconds long - just the wrong side of acceptable and just the right side of decadent. I think it's in our signiature. Good luck with yours - loads of podcasters will play it (Especially if you return the favour!).

Yep, and with a visual medium, we can probably even do better than 20 seconds!

I thought about doing ours as a Blipvert! (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089568/plotsummary)

Oops the one in the sig is right. We're hoping to do a 30 second one, but it is tough.

I have only one promo, but I'm considering making a new one. 30 seconds is a perfect time frame. Make it simple.

approx 30 seconds is a good length. I've been working on a promo for the OoO Show since we have a few shows under the belt and things are flowing & sounding better. The hardest thing to get is feedback that is actually real critique rather than people saying that it's great.
