Okay i recently went to a job interview for a media buyer postion at a web/magizine publishing firm. (i will not know if i get that job for another week) but my interviewer asked me to write a proposal for a podcast/online radio station suite done as cheaply as possible. PLease keep in mind iI've been out of the engineering game for the last two years since i was finishing up buisness school.

So my reply was sure its quite feaseble with todays techology. (insert foot into mouth)

my education as an engineer has been mostly geared towards the fromal studio and post production enviiroment. Thus, broadcasting and podcasting is a new beast for me.

i'm curious about what audio interfaces, condesser mics, sound proofing and software every one is using out there.

i realize all i need in theroy is a good audio interface usb or firewire and a "decent" quality condeser mic

I finding hard to sort thorugh the bs of product reviiews on website like musicans friend and sweetwater and having no experince in this area dosen't help me either.

http://tinyurl.com/gqzjz <- this package is what i'm considering based on its cost alone but i don't like giving some one a $80 or $50 wihtout hearing how bad or good it sounds in person

thank you for your time everyone

p.s: i specailize in media marketing and entertianment business. (i.e. media/talen marketing and promotions) so feel welcome to ask me any questions.

Check out the SAE Institute reference materials on designing/building a studio. It will cover acoustics, sound proofing, and sound treatment.

And for studio building materials, these guys are pretty comprehensive:

Also look at more than one source for audio gear. I like these folks
for studio equipment:

... and lots of people like the Guitar Center. If there's a retail outlet near you, there's no substitute for seeing/touching the gear first hand.

Choices in mics and headphones are highly personal and subjective, so whatever you get, make sure it is serviceable, and expect to replace it as soon as you've figured out what you really want.

Stick with pro grade gear and cabling, even if that means you can't get everything you want in the first purchase. In the long run, you'll wind up spending less.

true you can't use a miker with a usb mic but this podcatsing setup is being designed for web programers and designers that want as little interaction with the audio technaclities as possible
