Looks like house rejected the case to perserve net neutrality. Net neutrality essentially means that all internet sites must be treated equally, and is the way the net has been run up until this point.

Many people argue that this means that only big business that can pay the telcos oodles of money will be able to get any speed performance on the internet. Leaving those that couldn't pay the enhanced fees to the telcos for priority routing severely degraded performance.
So.. if this type of thing pans out, a podcast that used to download in 30 seconds could take MUCH MUCH longer if not on a priority stream.

This is just a way the telecom companies want to take back the internet as a whole away from the general public and back into their hands.

isnt the real issue here that.. there is a lock down that is supported by the gov. so no started can pop up and say "NO SPYING" or "No slow downs" " Or no internet freeze and only speed" and everyone can quickly be a start up?
NN would not be need if the gov. wasnt so shifty

It's all about corporate control of media. The internet (broadband specifically) being the emerging media omni portal, corporations want to meter it, and as such they can effectively funnel their media to your eyes and ears while excluding (slowing) everyone elses (the "everyone" being anything non- or anti-corporate). And now that corporations control the congress and executive branches of our gov, well... so much for free speech.
HELLO Big Brother, come on IN! 'cause I got nothing to hide, and I only get the information YOU want me to get.
Shhhh- come and watch this really funny car commercial with me...

The Senate is much more friendly to the concept of NN. So write your Senators! Call your Senators. E-mail your Senators.
Also remember that the House and Senate must reach an agreement on the bill and differences must be rectified and voted on in both chambers before it can be sent to the White House. That usually means committee hearings between the chambers, which could take weeks or months. They may even table it if the differences are too great. There's not much time left in this legislative session. Especially with the elections approaching.
With the campaigns swinging into gear, I would suggest you find out where your candidate is on this issue. Since this boils down to a freedom of speech issue, to me it's more important than abortion, gay rights and flag burning. I feel so strongly that if a candidate supported NN, but didn't hold my views on the other issues I may well consider voting for him if the other candidate(s) didn't support it. The future of small voices being heard and expressed is at stake. I would argue the future of our country as a meaningful democracy is at stake.
Use your power and contact you elected representatives to let them know how you vote!

Which country do you live in? Our representatives don't respond to the people. They have to take good care for the company which contributed the most to their campaign. When they have money and votes in the balance what do you think they'll chose? Money brings votes.
