View Full Version : An unholy trinity: Castblaster, Skype, Virtual Audio Cables?

I do a podcast with a mate via Skype. We play listener audio comments.

At the moment, we're doing a double-ender and patching in the audio comments later. As you can imagine, this leads to (a) a lot of post production and (b) a lack of spontinaity, as we have to remember what each comment was beforehand.

I'd love to achieve the following:

I'd be running castblaster with all the comments loaded to the dashboard.
We'd be connected via Skype.
I'd drive, playing comments and recording the whole thing in a recording somewhere.

I'm thinking this should be possible using virtual audio cables.

Has anyone tried it?? Care to share what you did? Was it successful?

Thanks...

We had the exact same issue, but with 3 of us instead of just 2. We tried going the software way, but it can be a ton of hassle. We ended up throwing hardware at the problem (extra soundcard or mixer) and it works great for us. The easiest (and cheapest) way to accomplish this is by using a 2nd sound card and a real audio patch cable.

But there are others that have had good luck with virtual audio adapters (like Pamela), I just haven't and don't recommend it.

Hmmm...maybe I'll try a simplified version:

I'll run the castblaster out to VAC1.

VAC1 to Skype.

I'll be recording in Castblaster.

My mate can record his voice as normal.

Then we can merge the streams in post-prod.

It achieves maybe 80% of what I'm looking for and actually keep the quality level of doing a double-ender.

If anyone has any more stories or tips I'd love to hear them though.
