The audio of my podcast that is...it just seaped through the RSS feeds to my diminishing Listeners. Ok here's my situation. I've been podcasting since December 2004, yeah one of the old schoolers. However my purogative to not scrounge for votes has left me at a bit of a disadvantage with the number of listeners I have. I've always had around 100 solid listeners. I however Feel that there's so much more of an audience since podcasting got soooo hip. My question is How the heck can I bounce back from the verge of non-existence in the...I shudder to say the word...podosphere...man I hate that word...can we work on a better word then that?..At any rate I feel like I'm this old Washed up Baseball player who can't put up the numbers like he used to and he keeps getting shuffled down in the lineup further and further...until the broadcasters note him as a former shell of his once greatness....uh..icity...I need to figure out how to make that comeback, step up to the plate see the seems comming towards me and knock that sum'a'btch outta the park and into the lights where the lights all burst and stuff like fireworkds and the crowd rushes the field and there's llke all this rejoicing and stuff...and then I...the old baseball player collapses at home base and die of a heart attack knowing that I went out on the top of my game....That's what I want my podcast to do...well all except the heart attack...well, I guess I can take it or leave it. So I leave it up to you kind pocast alley podcasters and fans of podcasting. How to I knock one out of the park and make a phoenix rise from the ashes of a once glorious podcast that a great number of listerners has never heard. A podcast that we'll call....the ponderplace podcast....which one might find at www.theponderplace.com...which is probably about the history and odd facts of everyday items....odd theories, ideas, awesome tunes...and general fun....where would I go to make this happen. I b
ow before you all. Thank you for your time...and free Nelson Mandella....again.

Sincerely,
Travis of the Ponderplace Podcast

the easy guide to gettting kool:

1)Use line breaks
2)Stay at least as on target as I do...it shouldn't be too hard
3)PCA Votes won't do it
..........3b)If you were considering it, cheating won't do it either
4)Is your podcast directed at a niche audience? If so, don't expect a big one
5)Does your podcast have bad sound quality? If so, after 1 1/2 years, I'd say it's about time to step it up, equipment wise
6)Does yer content suck? I doubt it, you've probably got the knack of it after so long, but if so, get some better content.
7)Are you regular with the releases of your shows? I find missing a few weeks can lose huge amounts of audience (90% for me....jeezus)

sabout all i can think of right now

No offense Travis, but do you talk the same way you write? Might that be it? :)

OK, seriously now. I am downloading a show, but as I'm currently kind of busy will listen to it later (around bedtime).

I have to disagree with ElNacho on his statement about votes not getting you listeners (the old debate rages on). Part of seeking votes, even if only among podcaster is that it gets you participating. The votes themselves don't always equal listeners, as astutely pointed out be ElNacho, but participation always does.

I'm not going to attempt to tell you if you need to correct your show or not. That's not my place. You've been at this a lot longer than I have!

I went to your website, though, and found it to be absolutely awesome. But there was one thing I didn't see: There were no signs of cross promotion (granted, I didn't dig deep into your archives). No links to other podcasts, etc. Might be worth a try...

okay, let me make a correction...PCA Votes alone won't do it
cheating's less effective. listeners won't stick.

1. noted on the line breaks
2. not a rambler
3. Never gave a crap about podcast alley votes...know how I would cheat...but not that kind of person
4. Podcast is open to everyone not a specific target
5. Sound quality is very good...can't stand crappy audio..usually
6. I believe my content to be quite good and researched
7. I've been consistent with the shows at most I've gone maybe three or four weeks without one...only several times though

Thank you for your suggestions Nacho, they are appreciated, keep on keeping on.

Eric,
I'd say about 80-90% do indeed link back. I also do have a promo available on the main index page available..i do need to shorten it slightly...but it is there...if only there were more hours in the day :)

Thanks again,
Travis

I'M A PIMP AND THE SHOW IS MY HO!!

I think we get listeners from word of mouth, friends that we've made here (in the forums). I mean I've never seen you on the forums. (you probably have more of a life than me) Become a social butterfly. Do you have a my Space account? There is also this great site triyo you can ping your show and I think that helps too. We bought some ink pens and have been pen ninjas all around town. We have actually got listeners from our town now. These are just suggestions hope they help. :D
Here is the triyo site. http://www.triyo.com/ping.php

Where'd you buy those pens, Kelli? Were you happy with the price?

i dont promote that much.. heck most people dont know i have a show.. or im the person in it.. funny that way right.. when you have a vidcast people always think if its a chick someone else puts the whole thing together.. theres a lot of women vidcast who do know how to use an editing package... altho im just getting into after effects after using motion since now i dont have motion.. wish it did! anyway back to the subject.. at hand.. id have to say your best bet would be to go to places that are off the beaten path and also.. the folks suggested..

im rocking about 200..downloads..each show..and a couple youtube stuff.. which compare to those who have been at it a long time most be like flea bites.. i dont know how it happen.. im only a member of a few forums/message boards..

personally.. i want my show to be better.. i want to buy a few new things.. a need a mic badly.. and i want to go with live music but i need two mics badly to do that.. anyway

im going to listen to your show.. i'll get back to you in the morning..

kelli do you have a wiki? ... someone should put that in there..for you

"I'M A PIMP AND THE SHOW IS MY HO!! " ...

Hey Thanks - :D

I got the pens from Pens Xpress pensxpress.com . I was pretty happy with the price. Of course the more you buy the cheaper the cost of each pen. I thought that this website was pretty easy to manuever. I would totally order from them again.

Tokies ~ That would be totally cool if someone did that. I did try doing a wiki, for the Nobodies, but I don't know if it ever worked. I feel dumb sometimes, but I don't know alot of computer stuff. I've just started when we started the show, and I'm learning as I go.
