We’re working on a name for the Podcast Peer Awards. It should sound cool and be at least somewhat related to podcasting.
Some of the many names being discussed on the PPA forums:
“The Curry†- Guess who that’s named after.
“The Leo†– Named after Leo Laporte. Although he didn’t invent podcasting, he has been very influential in spreading its popularity, and has (and continues to) contributed a lot to the medium.
“The Peel†or “The John Peel Award†– Named after John Peel, a well loved British broadcaster known for doing pirate radio and all kinds of antics that annoyed the BBC and enthralled audiences. If he were alive today you can be sure he’d be podcasting – he really embodied the spirit of the art form.
“The Cerf†– Vinton Cerf invented internet protocols, without which none of this would exist. He also is a very classy guy.
What are the advantages/disadvantages of any of these names? What names are we missing? (You might want to take a glance at the PPA forums to see what other ideas are being batted around.)

I'd say podcast peer awards is better that all of those suggestions.
The medium is too young to name it after one of its pioneers.

well dude, there's plenty of places where everyone can vote (try just about any directory you go to).
but that's not the reason only podcasters can vote. im not sure only podcasters can. hittman, do you need to be validated to access the nominations part of the forum? how bout the voting thing?
and even so, an award from everyond and an award from just fellow podcasters is the same in my book. id say 70% of all votes/favorites (for the non-super-mega-ultra-popular-shows) are from other podcasters.

The reason that it sticks out the most is they aren't someone who is here. The problem you face with naming it from someone who is here is so many people don't/do like so many podcasts and people.
If it didn't go with the name of someone who is not with us. Put irony into it. Name it after someone who doesn't know a **** thing about podcasting.

I’m just throwing out suggestions, and this is one that deserves to be thrown out.
The real reason for this thread is to get ideas. What’s yours? What name would you like to have for an award for your show sitting on one of your shelves?
im not sure only podcasters can. hittman, do you need to be validated to access the nominations part of the forum? how bout the voting thing?
Read the site, Nacho. Only verified podcasters can vote on anything regarding the awards. Most of the forums are viewable by anyone, but no one can post anywhere but the “validate me†section until they are validated. And the “Nominations†forum is only available/visible to members (verified podcasters).
If it didn't go with the name of someone who is not with us. Put irony into it. Name it after someone who doesn't know a d*mn thing about podcasting.
How about the Winona Award, named after my wife, who I don’t think has even listened to one of my shows, much less any other.

I have to say I'd just as soon see the Peer Awards, or Podcast Peer Awards.
It says all it needs to say!

I think that what he's asking for is a nickname for the award you receive...kind of like the way The Academy Awards are referred to as "Oscars". So, the awards would still be "The Podcast Peer Awards", but you would then say, "The _______ goes to...."
Along the idea of "Oscar"...how about "Mike" as in Mic.
the Mike/Mic goes to....
Or "Bud", as in earbud....
I dunno...
