Hi Everyone,

I'm VERY new to podcasting.. I already have the headset so now I'm on the hunt for the software. :)

I want to be able to do interviews.. that will be the main part of my website and podcasts. So what program should I get that will be able to do this??

Any help will be greatly appreciated! :D

TIA!

Britt

The answer depends on your answer to these questions at least, and possibly more I haven't thought of at the moment:

What platform (MacOS, Linux, Windows, Etc.)?

Do you mean audio-only?

Do you mean in-person, or via phone (dial-up or VOIP)?

Do you mean in your home/office or on-location?

Do you want to do everything "live", or do you want to record and do post-production such as editing, mixing, noise processing, etc.?

I understand a lot of Windows folks start out with Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/)

It's free to download and is reliable (for the most part).

I started out with the same requirements and found 'gizmo project' voip software. It has a nice big RECORD button on the app so it's very easy to record.

Then I use 'wavepad' to edit the show, convert to MP3, and add overlay music with the 'paste mix' function.

Both a free and you'll find sites by googling those quoted terms.

Good luck!

So you're using VOIP software to record your show, or just your interviews?

I wish you the best of luck. Please make sure you're vocally upbeat. Don't become just another podcaster with a ton of equipment, expensive software, and a monotone voice. We're looking forward to your first upload.

Do any of you use Skype? I heard about the free skype out service on a few podcasts and was wondering if that works well?

and does anyone know how that shows up on your bill? For example if we called my friends cell phone using skype, would he be charged anything different then what he would be for a normal incoming call?
thanks

hmmm... unless "monotone" works for you... does for me, and it works on a lot of shows ...perhaps he means dont be "boring". well anyway ... my suggestion - be yourself, and stop doing it when it aint fun .. judging from your happy picture anyway, think it should be fun!

best of luck, welcome aboard ... theres also the podcast pickle directory if you need more help ... www.podcastpickle.com .. stop by sometime!

re: skype. lots of threads on recording with skype here and at the pickle. take a look, im at work and would link if the MAN wasnt looking over my shoulder... actaully as we speak ... oops

That's true, if you're doing a Ben Stein imitation, "Bueller, Ferris Bueller?" monotone is wonderful—otherwise sign-up for a Voice and Diction class at the local Jr. College. There's already too many dead voices floating around cyberspace.

j_crichton, just about every podcaster you meet will have skype.

I've never interviewed another podcaster for my show, and AFAIK, nobody I've interviewed for my show would have had a clue what Skype is. So it's no more useful to me than a good phone hybrid. A phone hybrid is less problematic because it doesn't have the delay nor depend on flakey software hacks.
