Anyone else get unexpected press recently?

I was featured in Hustler magazine as someone Jenna Jameson really wants to make out with.

A link to The WildeBeat (http://www.wildebeat.net/) appears on the left sidebar on my.yahoo.com (http://my.yahoo.com/) yesterday and today (May 26 & 27). I've seen about 30-40 new subscribers from that.

In addition, a two paragraph mini-review of my show appeared in the May/June print edition of Plenty Magazine (http://www.plentymag.com/), an environmental lifestyle 'zine. I've seen a little more churn -- downloads from a larger number of different IP addresses -- over the past week-plus that I'll attribute to that. They appear to have a circulation of 100,000 or more.

Finally, someone sent me an e-mail pointing me to a best picks review of my show (http://www.studenttraveler.com/mag/05-06/ourthree.php) about two weeks ago in a magazine called Student Traveler (http://www.studenttraveler.com/). They claim that their tabloid print edition is distributed to thousands of college campuses. I haven't seen any obvious boost in stats from that.

It certainly feels good to get the recognition.

WildeBeat-I was editing my MyYahoo today and saw you. I thought that was a great way to get some press.

I wish I could say I had something to do with it. When random acts of kindness happen to long-distance hikers, they call it trail magic. Someone at Yahoo gave me a little trail magic this weekend. :o :D

Oh yes trail magic is golden. When Thebes and I were hiking the AT we got some amazing trail magic. Total strangers would go out of their way to help us out or give us food, etc. It reaffirmed my faith in humanity and the kindness of strangers.

It was just pointed out to me today that our show, How To (http://www.howto.com), is a featured podcast in Yahoo's New and Notable (http://podcasts.yahoo.com/) on the front page of their podcast directory. Sweeet! It says it's "this weeks," but I didn't see it there earlier in the week. I'm trying to figure out if it was there since last Monday (and I'm completely blind), or they're getting an early start on updating the directory because of Memorial Day. Anyone know what day Yahoo starts a new week?

I just found out that my show was featured in a BBC Radio Scotland story, about PodCasting.

I had a listener from the Ilse of Tiree email me yesterday morning to tell me he heard me on BBC Radio...consequently, this morning...I've noticed 93 hits from that area of the world.

The funny thing was that the reporter in the story didn't seem all that interested in PodCasting. Go figure:

Odd how UNL's "Technologies across Nebraska" newsletter missed me over here in Omaha. lol. I'm easily overlooked, apparently.

But anyway, yes I recently got some free pub from a new 'zine called Assembler Techno Fanzine. First issue, back page:

Myself, KATG, and Soccer Girl got a shoutout from the guy who created it. It was awesome!

Cubscast (http://cubscast.com) was profiled in a recent edition of Frontier Airline's in-flight magazine.

It really surprised us when we found out.

Congratualations! That is one of the more unique ones I've seen

I'm always amazed at how a company or group can be pofiled by a publication, and the group is never contacted about it! You would think that the person writing the article would want to do a little fac checking, or if nothing else, the editor would like some. My mom has a background in journalism, and would never consider writing an article or profile about someone without first contacting them for further infromation. But that seems to be the new norm.

Noticed that my numbers jumped a bit so went around trying to find out why. Finally found out that I had been put into the Video Podcast feature area in iTunes. Sweeeet.

Yeah, I saw you there earlier this week, Rev. I thought that was pretty **** cool! And here I was starting to think you had to have a sexy picture to get picked for that!

Awww.... who am I kidding? You're The Reverand Chumly! Of course your picture is sexy -- and I'm comfortable enough with my own sexuality to say so (and then go bang my wife just to prove it)! :D

Shelley the Republican just ranted about our podcast and even put up pictures from our Flickr group to try and prove how unamerican we are. Crazy!

On the plus side we had the most downloads of our show today and it must be because of her ranting about us.

The magazine The Scientist (http://www.the-scientist.com)has a cover story on podcasting this month. Although I haven't seen the whole issue, we've been getting some referrals from their site, so I think we were at least mentioned!
