Hi all, I'm thinking of getting involved in podcasting.
iTunes say that, if you submit a new podcast to them, it can take up to two days for it to be reviewed and become available for download through iTunes.
In your experience, how long does it take for a new podcast to be available through iTunes? Would it ever happen that a podcast you submit would become available on iTunes the same day you submit it, or within a certain number of hours?
And are there any other popular websites that have podcasts for download?
Many thanks all

It only took a day - actually about ten hours for me from the time I submitted to the time I got an email saying it was listed.

36 hours. 24 hours when I got the email saying it would be listed, but another 12 before it actually was.
For some it has been a much longer process (like a week).
And this all depends on you making sure everything works before you submit to iTunes. If you don't, and there's a problem, your delays could be much longer.
If you're looking for a specific time frame, don't count on one. Best to put your site up early, make sure the RSS works, submit to iTunes (and others), and THEN announce your podcast to the world!
Best places: Podcast Alley, Podcast Pickle, and lots of sites list podcasts.
Best bet is to check out Podcast411. (http://www.podcast411.com/page2.html) They have a directory of directories.
Good luck!

I think it depends on the size of their queue. Mine only took a couple hours.

Hmmm, let's see, I would say that it all depends upon whether your podcast is a music podcast or not. If it is not a music podcast then it should only take 2-3 days. If it is a music podcast then you could be in for a rocky ride.
I started my music podcast (Eclectic Mix) last July and submitted my information. I got no response, so I wrote them after a week. Nothing. I tried resubmitting, but they said that I had already submitted.
Finally, in September someone passed a different email address to me and we were off to the races. After a few responses from their robot I decided to save the emails and post the "conversation." This can still be found at http://eclecticmix.com/iTunes.htm, which is my "correspondence" with them through the next several months.
I really did want to play by the rules and tried to do so all along, but it just didn't work out, so I gamed the system and got into iTunes. Remember that if you have a music podcast that you are competition for their music store, so don't expect to get treated like a regular podcast.
Cheers -
