I didn't see it posted anywhere else in the Forum. This is great if you want to do interviews with people that don't have Skype. Now just call them from Skype to their landline and you're all set...

well, for one thing, skype is the most commonly used voip (as far as ive experienced). so the ratio of people using gizmo to those using skype is probably pretty small
but does it sound better? dunno. i only had it a long time ago.
is anyone else experiencing problems with the install? for the last hour and a half, it's been "updating files", but there's no status bar movement or anything

They say it's free nationally and in Canada but you can't activate it without adding credit. I think that's kinda lame.

I selected Gizmo for 2 reasons:
1) Their voicemails get translated to wav files and sent to your e-mail.
2) It has a record button on the application.
I made my decision about 4 months ago now. I think at this point, (a) you can get an app to convert Skype's wierd voicemail format to wav, and (b) there are probably better Skype recorders available than Gizmo's built-in version.
The problem with Gizmo's is that everything is sampled at 8K - the POTS telephone standard.
However, when I'm talking Gizmo-to-Gizmo, I know I'm hearing better quality than 8K on my headphones, and obviously it could take my audio directly from the mic.
So, I really need to play around with something like HotRecorder - but rather stupidly, their app doesn't work on my laptop because their window is sized incorrectly. Grrrrrr.
At the moment we do double-enders, but for the sake of convenience, I'd like to experiment with just one person recording it all (at a decent quality).
We do a show every weekday night, so convenience trumps sound quality to a certain extent.

I didn't add credit and just called my business partner.I just "dialed" 1+ his number.
On a side note, you show up as: (000) 123-4567 on the caller I.D. Kinda neat.

Ummm, No... I dialed my cell phone then my home phone to test it. Then I went a little berserk and called relatives on the other side of the country. :)

ugh, if only i could get this thing installed. ive downloaded the setup twice, both times it freezes at the start of "updating files" right before logging in
