Today, March 21, 2006, is the first anniversary of my podcast The Word Nerds (http://thewordnerds.org). For one year I have been doing this weekly half-hour show with my brother Howard and my colleague Howard Chang.
One of our favorite podcasts (at least of the two of us who speak German) is the absolute coolest podcast in Germany, Schlaflos in München (http://schlaflosinmuenchen.com), by Annik Rubens.
As it turns out, the 21st of March is also the first anniversary of Schlaflos in München. Exactly the same day as ours.
This got me to thinking today about others who have hung in there for a year. To me, the first wave of podcasting was the folks who started between August 2004 and about early February 2005. These are the people who were the real trailblazers, the ones who really explored the medium when there was not yet anyone listening.
Then came the second wave, those who started in March or April 2005.
The third wave seemed to happen in mid-summer, when Apple released iTunes 4.9.
I'm wondering who here is still producing a podcast that started sometime in March 2005? Whose podcast is having its first birthday this month? And (most important) are you still producing it, or have you podfaded?

I began podcasting back in March of 2005. I podfaded for a while after a few months, but then picked up in December of 05 with a new podcast, and have been going strong since then. No plans to stop, as long as I have things to talk about.

heh
Never thought as myself as a pioneer or trailblazer!
I suppose pre-iTunes we were, but it didn't seem like that at the time...:D Just seemed like fun.
I now feel old (18 months now and rising...happy 1st, please don't do a really big show about it, or make it too work intensive, it can kill your podcast :( Almost did that to mine, and a few others...hard to explain unless you've been there...it's a mix of overwork and 'what now'?)

Congrats Dave (and the Howards). I used to be a subscriber...maybe I'll have another listen.
So what wave was was, erm, Feb 2006?

I posted episode one on March 13, 2005. Yep, still doing about a show a week.
Have noticed a lull in the download numbers lately. Had some great growth over the last 8 months but within the last two, there doesn't seem to be any new downloads....I guess it's the podcasting rut....lots of shows for folks to check out now....but I'm not complaining, I love the listeners I have. They're very devoted!

Since other April posts are already here....I'll join in. My 1 year anniversay is coming up on April 8. Congrats to everyone! It is great to see so many that kept at it.
That was a good point about being pre-itunes. Those were the days, eh? I sure thought I would have made it to the front page of iTunes at least once by now.

While I don't agree with Dave that "Schlaflos" is the best best podcast in Germany, it could the best podcast in Germany by a German...
Also, I'm fascinated by the idea of organizing the 'casts chronologically based on starting date. Is there any way to get a list and find out who's in my class? That's the Class of June '05, by the way.
Love the Word Nerds and feel free to email the Casual Artscast if you're from June '05 as well: Artscast(at)casualarts.net

I started posting 'casts to my weblog in March, 2005; I actually added the feed in May, 2005. I was highly motivated after hearing those early independents. I hope we don't lose that spirit.

If there is enough interest in the chronological database, I could start gathering dates and make one on my website www.casualarts.net.
Some kind of a wiki chart with links to the 'casts, starting dates, which shows are still going and which are defunct...
Anybody be interesed in such a thing?

I just posted the 97th edition of Radio MacGuys. I started right after returning from a trip to Europe in early March 2005 and have been, more or less, going ever since. I'm looking for some recorded shout-outs to include in the 100th show, so if you got a sec and are willing, please send one one. The mailing address is macguys@mac.com.
Thanks,
Dave

Think a chronological map of podcasts would be interesting - espcially if it could have several dimensions to it where you could also see sheer growth. We're an early starter as well - Feb 05.

March 22, I see, was my one year anniversary.
