View Full Version : How many people are in your team?

How many people are in your podcasting team? I'm relatively new to the podcasting world and I was just wondering. I usually have 3-5 people on my show, all talking, then a sound editor, a webmaster. So that's around 5-7 people including me. How about you?

Wow.

Umm, two. Me and my co-host.

You should look into group health plans. :lol:

I have 3. Me and my two cohosts. Although sometimes I think it'd be nice if there was another to take over the editting, because that is starting to get pretty arduous.

We have two primary people, with a handful of folks that we've called on for help, both on and off camera. I would say the amount of help varies by the month from four to six peeps!

The primary folks are:

• Myself (camera, director, and lead editing, writing, web designer, lead webmaster, and locations);

• Madeline (producer, hostess (with the mostess), research, head writer, co-editor, website contributor, and locations);

Intermittent Help:

• Brad (acting);

• Tatiana (model and Madeline's on-screen helper);

• Judy (part time camera, grip);

• Brian (part time camera, grip)

But behind us are people that might not normally get any recognition for our podcast. Like my wife Judy (also listed above) for her patience and indulgence, Madeline's family for allowing us to disrupt their home for one weekend every month, and everyone who's eyes have glazed over as we excitedely yammer on about this new and incredible experience!

Oh, and of course, we could not have done this at all without the wonderful support of the Podcasting community as a whole. Seriously. Special shout outs to Craig, Rev Chumbly, and "Cali Lewis" from Geek Brief TV. The help has been first rate! Sorry if I forgot anyone :(

My wife has just joined the podcasting team as one of the participants to provide some diversity in the voices. Otherwise, it's just me and her, and I do all the editing etc.

But depending on who you include on the team, there might be a third. A chap down in Mexico has taken to translating my podcasts into Spanish, so now we can reach a whole new audience. So, with him on board, I guess that makes three of us.

There are 5 main participants in the show, my 4 actors and me (I suppose technically you can call me an actor too).

I record the show, and do the rough edits. He finishes it up and gets it posted to the feed and on our site. He also handles all the other updates related to the website.

One and a half. Me and Manly Tony.

Basically, I do the talking. He does the teching - altohugh we cheat because we make ours at a radio station and then he transfers it to computer the next day.

It's all blibs and blobs to me Delboy.

The Obtuse Angle Corporation currently employs 287 people, which includes various writing, production, marketing and IT personnel, in addition to the assorted talent "handlers" (wardrobe, script assistants, etc.) and the executive office, whom we affectionately refer to as "The Bigwigs."

Now, the Steve Dupont Corporation (parent company of the Obtuse Angle Corporation and Obtuse Angle NewsCorp), employs between 6,000-7,000 people. To be honest it's hard to keep up with all the hirings and firings.

Hope that helps.

Cheers,

Steve

The four people on the show are it basically. We cheat as well and use a radio studio and record then the person who wants to do the uploading does it.

My partner did the website and still any maitenence.

So, I guess that makes five.

I started out with one, but just added a "field reporter". (looking for more by the way). I do all the technical stuff/editing and the majority of the content for now.

How do you folks with multiple persons decide on who does what? Do you ever have any conflicts with ownership issues?

i have a squadron of people working on it, the show is edited in 3 different locations, each person works on a portion of the show, so no one knows the full story line before it is released, only i put all 3 together. this really cuts down on leaks, and spoilers.
i have a team of expertly tranined ninjas that make up my logistics dept. they don't waste time on chit chat, and they get right to business and disappear right when their work is done. though their health benefit premium is killing me. it's a give and take this podcasting world.

In our case, Madeline and I realize that we wouldn't have a show without the contributions of the other, and therefore we are 50/50. Anybody else that helps out is usually paid with grub :) or I owe a favor.

Oh wow there's quite a range here. I found that it's really too much work for a single person who's either in school(like me), or who has another full time job, (my mates). So we split the work and it's all good then.

And I gotta give major props to you for that Lynne! You do a lot of stuff with your cast, so it's gotta be alot of work! Keep rockin' it down under!

Kelli started off doing the pretty much all the work, and I just did my part on the shows. Now, she just does the majority of the work. I'm learning as I go and trying hard to do as much as I can.

I employ a team of one. If something goes wrong, I immediately know who to blame!

But the nice thing is, if you have a partner, you still know who to blame, and it doesn't have to be you :D

Just kidding! It's my fault if something goes wrong. Yep. All me. Just like being married :)

There are two of us. Right now I'm doing most of the work, but shortly that is going to change, because my husband bought a fancy new mixer for studio work and Pro Tools, which he wants to master. So he'll eventually become a major studio tech guy.

There has been no doubt, since day one, that the show is "mine" as far as decisions are concerned. Granted, the show would be completely impossible without all of us, but someone has to be the central force and, as the guy who came up with the idea in the first place, and the guy who, when all is said and done, puts the most time into the show, what I say goes. You need a central voice or the show will go to pot. At least, that's the way I think.

Either that, or a clear and realistic division of responsibilties. We're soon to be setting up as an LLC, and as such have a loose verbal contract in place, until we can file the operating agreement and the state paperwork.

As a 50/50 team approach, you need to know who exactly is in charge of, and the most skilled, in each area. So far, we've been able to decide as we go what we each need to do, and are very greatful for each partner's work. Areas that overlap, we discuss. Areas that we know nothing about, we defer to the other, or find the answer from someone else.

This works well with two people, but from personal experience, when you get many more than that, it devolves into chaos -- even with a written operating agreement.

Like most things I've created, its usually been myself, and such is the case with my podcast. From scheduling appearances, to editing, to web design, etc., etc. I even did my own promo last night (using a "character" voice .. I had an idea, and my "regular" wouldn't pull it ioff).. which was a lot of fun .
