They are very different services.

Are you looking for better stats?

Podtrac solicited me after my podcast appeared in the iTunes Top 100 for a few days. They offered a lot of stuff for free, so I joined up. I mostly did so for the reporting features since the iTunes Music Store doesn't have any stats available for podcasters.

I implemented the tracking system (which was easier than I thought once I read the instructions a couple of times) and put the user survey on my blog just for my own amusement.

I'm glad I did--I got tapped (along with about 30 other podcasts) to have HBO as a sponsor for a few weeks. I don't know how much cash that generated, but having a sponsor like that gives your show some degree of "legitimacy."

So, give Podtrac a whirl. You've got nothing to lose.

Okay, not to go off topic, but if you were sponsored by HBO, did you see any of the cash from that?

Doesn't bother me to go OT. :)

I haven't seen any cash yet, but the campaign just ended this weekend, I believe, so I would imagine that we'll be hearing about the payment matters in the near future.

the bigger concern is, he agreed to an ad but doesn't know what the rates were.

Actually, the rates were given to us, but they're confidential.

But I was never in the thing to make $$ to begin with. If some dough comes my way, I see it as gravy.

Michael Geohagen has a good post about this whole topic of rates and confidentiality:

Was this sponsorship the wisest business move in history? No. But it was kind of cool and as I said, any cash I receive is a bonus.

Good point. Although, without being privy to the details, I'll assume that he had to know some of the details, or there was another incentive aside from cash or simple prestige.

I tried working with PodTrac, but the person who contacted me was the rudest person I've ever talked to. The guy had a superiority complex and thought he was doing me a favor, so I ended the conversation and will never sign on with Podtrac.

that was my 2cts

I think you misunderstand these services.

Feedburner is a tool you use to publish your feed and therefore view subscription information on your feed.

Podtrac is used to track show downloads with the main focus being to gather data to use to gain advertisers.

You can use Feedburner to publish your feed AND also use Podtrac to track downloads/get file download information to gain advertisers.

PodPress now does this automaticly for you. In the new versions theres a checkbox and it will add the podtrac redirector URL for each of your files.
