I have a weird question that maybe someone has come across. Is it common to hear the clicking noise of the mouse during a podcast. Just recently I noticed it. Is there a more silent mouse that can be used for this situation?

Hey Dork,

What are you using the mouse for? Selecting sound F/X?

Is there any way to assign keyboard keys to whatever it is you're using the mouse for?

Could also make sure you're using a mouse pad (even with an optical mouse). Provides a little cushion... and you know what they say! More cushion, better pushin'!

OK. That was uncalled for! :)

Or, you could move or aim your mic away from the mouse if possible.

What mic are you using and are you using a noise gate?

are you using a pop filter or foam cover for your mic?

If you put a foam cover on it, it should reduce it or even eliminate it.

You could probably even get that mighty mouse that apple makes. I believe you can turn the click off on that one because it is actualy a little speaker inside the mouse, similar to what the ipod does. I was listening to a radio station last week and at then end of all their talking sopts and comercials they had that mouse click! once you notice it it dosent go away!

Hello,

I do not have a foam cover for the mic. I really need one.

Also would love to get a silent mouse but they are really hard to find for purchase.

the actual click of the mouse live? or the click sound the computer makes when you click on something?

the Nostromo N50 or N52. they will do the trick for under $30 shipped. Sorry I'm too lazy to link you up Dork.

I get around this by making sure I don't have to click anything while I'm recording.

My typical workflow:

1.) Set up the window with the text I'm going to read from. Raise the font size so it's easily visible from several feet away.

2.) Set up Soundtrack Pro, click "Record," test to make sure the record meter is moving the way it should be.

3.) Click once into the window I'll be reading from, then pick up my wireless mouse and stand up (http://www.podcastpedant.com/2006/04/26/stand-and-deliver/) away from the computer.

4.) Read whatever it is I'm reading (story, intro, etc). If it's longer than a single page, use the scroll wheel on the mouse I'm holding in my hand to scroll down. That's pretty silent.

5.) When I'm done, I sit back down at the computer, click back into Soundtrack Pro, and click the stop button.

6.) Then I edit. The first thing I take out is the dead space and clicking at the very beginning and end of the file.

Obviously this won't work for everyone. It depends on the content you need to present, etc. But it works for me. If I was actually interacting with the computer while recording, I'd probably be too distracted to sound good.

Yup I do the same. Except the microphone isn't near t he computer at all, so there is a BIG gap between when I start talking and when I click.

It will be interesting this week. We have a totally new setup. We got a good studio mic, and an MBOX, and Pro Tools and they are my husband's toys (Garageband and Giant Squid and iRiver are my toys - at least until the mp3 files are on the Macintosh) and he is going to do the studio work on his Windoze PC.

Problem is it has a fan that is much louder than my G4. We'll put pillows around it, but he might just have to find a quiet fan.

He got a new motherboard, and new chipset and all to support this. so it sure as heck better work.

i usually dont click during recording...i record in 2-200 second bits, so if anything needs to be dealt with right then and there, i could either interrupt myself in the middle, deal with it, then do the bit again, or deal with it before or after the bit im presently recording. ive grown accustomed to ignoring things that pop up while im recording
