Hey all. Graeme and I have been doing ITRadio for 60+ episodes and since around July of last year. We're creeping on our one year anniversary, but it seems that we can't get more than 100 or so listeners. I know podcastalley has seen it all, the good, the bad, and the otherwise, so I'm looking for as many reveiws on our show as possible.

The reason why I'm calling for people to listen is because I know that our show isn't for everyone, but I barely hear bad things about our show. The only "downfall" that I hear is that we tend to swear too much for people's tastes. That's a great observation, and we love the feedback, but that's all we get for our show that could be considered "constructive" critisizm. I'm looking for the good, the bad, and the ugly about our show, and I'm asking, ney, I'm begging at this point to get honest opinions from the podcasting community.

When the podcast expo comes around this year, ITRadio is planning on attending. I want to know if we'll be welcomed with open arms or shunned because of the quality, or lack thereof of our show. I know that we call ourselves the "unproffesional proffesional podcast" but it doesn't mean that we're not willing to change or take the feedback to heart.

Anyway, I've never been good at short messages, but we have the new podcast out there. If you listened to the last show with all the swears cut together, that is NOT our regular show. Please listen to us and let us know either here, or on our blog what you thought of the show. Good or bad. I'll have a bunch of links at the bottom when I'm done so please go there for the links.

You might ask yourself, "what's in it for me?" Well, if you review our show, we'll be willing to play your promo on our show. If you don't have a show, but would like to plug something, let us know and we'll plug your stuff. We're really desparate to find out why people don't seem to want to say anything about our show and totally ignore us.

So I thank you. You can find our podcast on any of your favorite directories online. If there is one that you have and you can't find "ITRadio" when you search for it, let us know.

Your post is too long. If your podcast is like your post.....

I can see your point, but in the past I have simply put "I'd like a review" and no one went.

Short enough?

Hi guys!

Okay, my disclaimer - I could only listen to part of the show, so in return feel free to only play part of my promo (http://womengrow.org/mp3-archive/GROW-Promo-01.mp3), if you want.

Right of the bat, I went to your pickle page to listen to your promo to get an idea of what the show would be about and see how your show "lived up" to the promo. Sadly, the promo links did not work.

Undaunted, I downloaded episode #66 in iTunes. My first reaction was that at 1:08:18 that show is too long for me to listen to on a regular basis. I recently just unsubscribed from TWiT and MuggleCast because of their length, and added a few other shows (Bitterest Pill, Cush: Things I Say, Dismay, small WORLD) that I can fit in on my way to work. Other listeners have other listening habits, but unfortunately those are my own personal hurdles to overcome.

The phone intro is problematic: as a first time listener I am immediately confused and a bit worried that this may be the sound quality for the next hour - luckily that is not the case, your sound quality is actually very good.

I know I have been warned, but the swearing during the show is an issue. I am not a sensitive person to that, but I have two young kids. So when I am driving with them in my car, I would not listen to your show because of them. Too much swearing is also a little abrasive for the listener. If you want to shock or choose a certain tone, some listeners will leave.

Next is your title. By calling it ITradio, some people may come expecting IT news. Naturally, they will be disappointed.

The show itself is a bit jumpy, and never quite settles in either the "rough but still comedy" or the "me about my life" camp. If it's the later, as a listener I'd want to hear stories that engage me. "ADD" as a descriptor for your show is right on the money, unfortunately it is "AD-Disorder". It's fine as a concept, but "disorder" is hard on the listener.

Here is my summary: your show has the potential to be the audio equivalent of a Jackson Pollack (http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&q=Jackson%20pollack&btnG=Google+Search&sa=N&tab=wi) painting, but to pull it of successfully is difficult. The good news is, a diamond in the rough is still a diamond. I'd perscribe your show a healthy dose of Ritalin (sticking with the ADD theme) and reign it in with some decisive edits. It's great to record the conversation free-flow, but then cut it down to two to three good bits for the final podcast. Break them up with a song. Keep the final show at 20-30 minutes.

That's my two cents from my perspective as a listener. Of course it is your show and you should do the show the way that is fun for you and rewarding for you.

I hope this was at least a little helpful.

Take care -

Erika, Thank you so much for reviewing our podcast, and I am extremely grateful for the comments that you made to us. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!! I wanted to talk about your review on our show, and will do so, but knowing you might not listen, I wanted to make sure that you could understand my thoughts.

I apologize for the promos, we are making some new ones, and feel that the old ones did a good job of saying a bit of who we were, but are definately out dated. There is still a promo up on our MySpace account that if you are interested in, you can check it out (http://www.myspace.com/itradio/).

Length of the shows have been an issue because due to the "sidetracks" that we go off onto, we tend to not hit things that we feel are important to us, so it has lengthened our shows to and hour long.

The phone into was something that we just do when there are messages on our voicemail. Where the show typically starts is with the "Hey boys and girls" intro. I agree that it's not the best way of starting off a show, and we will definately consider where to play those messages in the future.

I'm glad that you liked the sound quality of the show. Graeme just bought new equipment and we are still trying to work out the kinks. We do have problems when we have 3 people on the show, or I should say an extra person on the show who wants to "chime in" every now and then because they usually don't realize that the listeners can't hear them. it's a constant struggle... :)

As far as the swearing, we do realize that we swear, probably to an obsessive amount, but we also make fun of ourself for that as well. Episode #64 was a half hour episode of the swears we had, pieced together, in one show. The results were mostly positive because the ammount of swears in it was overly rediculous.

I have realized the problem of naming our show ITRadio, thinking that people might think it's I.T. but the origin of the name comes from the band name that Graeme and I are a part of. We call ourselves "IT" and we haven't found the time to make music, other than one song, but a large part of it is because we chose to put podcasting first instead. We do music for our show, so it still allows us to be creative when time calls for it.

I appreciate your Jackson Pollack reference and I couldn't agree more. It definately has been tough to pull off, but I feel that it is a small victory that we are able to get around 100 listeners per show. Now, I realize and I feel that is a horribly small number, but like you said, it does have great potential. The show itself does seem to be getting more calm and we have been getting more compliments from our regular listeners that they do like to hear our show more now than they did in the past. It says to me that despite doing 60+ shows to figure out what we're doing and to find the kind of reactions that we are now, that we are still getting better each show that we do. Also after doing the shows, I can honestly say that I feel like the shows are getting consistantly better as a whole.

Erika, I thank you again, we will be proudly playing your promo, and we will put a link up to your show as well. I know our show is rough around the edges, and is not for everyone, but it's good to get a little feedback to see what edges should be smoothed out and what edges we'll still want to keep a little jagged. :)

ALSO anyone, please don't feel that Erika's view needs to be the only one. I am still really anxious to get more people to listen to our show and give us their point of view, no matter how rough it may be. Thanks!

Response to Erika's review was also discussed on our last show (http://itradio.turkeyvan.com).

Thank you again, and please someone else do a reply and we will plug your show as well!

Allie from ElasticRadio is a wonderful person: http://www.elasticradio.com/allie/?p=54

Not saying that Erika is terrible, we still are EXTREMELY grateful for her review. She gave us a different view, and it was something that we were looking for.

Allie backed up my thoughts on what I thought about our podcast, and she put it into words that I could have never figured out how to say it.
