For my exam and thesis about podcasting at the IT-University in Copenhagen, I am collecting podcasts - but special podcasts - they must submit to a certain criterium:
They would never have been made (or listened to) if there was no podcasting.
I have two examples to illustrate:
Podcasts to farmers in the Andean mountains
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/4688882.stm
and
Indian outside India preserve their dialects:

You can personalize and choose sequences to your own podcast on
http://www.dailysonic.com/
If you have examples like this - please post links and please include rss to the podcasts.

No disrespect, and I'm not tryingto be a smartass. If there wasn't podcasting 3/4th's of these shows wouldn't have ever been heard. I know for a fact we wouldn't be doing ours. Are you looking for podcast that people won't listen to Like "Zithawanian sheep hearders daily update" I mean unless unless you are a Zithawanian sheep hearder you probably wont listen.
Is that what your shooting for? Because if podcasting was never heard of I don't think podcst alley would be here. Perhaps I'm just confused. That could be the case.

Kelli, I think you're missing the point.
I think she's looking for podcasts that are special in different way. She's not looking for GREAT shows, she's looking for podcasting being used to reach people where before it wouldn't have been possible. It's about podcasting being used in special circumstances that are different from our's.
She's talking about podcasts that are more remote than all of us who have access and the simple ability to do it.

I didn't miss the point - I asked for clarity. I asked if she meant podcast that are specific for a reason. i.e. the Zithawanian goat herder example. I wasn't trying to be like oh we're special. I was asking for clarity.

I don't think my show would exist without podcasting. There is NO WAY any other media would air Kinky Sex Radio.
I think this is what you are talking about. If not, sorry.

I think Barefoot missed your point Kell. As for clarity, I too need some clarity.
I'm all for research being done on podcasting. Could you please be a little more clear on what you are looking for. The categories for podcasting is growing and could be endless.

I don´t blame you Kelli - this is really hard to grasp - because you´re right, there is a lot more programs/sound out there than ever, because we now have a new way of distributing. BUT a lot of it could have reached its audience before as on demand/netradio/streaming. IF you can come up with examples of programs/files/topics that could not have been made/distributed/heard - it falls into the category, Im looking for.
I do recognize that podcasting in itself has motivated a lot more people to express themselves. That is the topic of my study, which I am going to defend at the exam next month. I would like, though, to qualify with these examples to stress the fact, that new technology, new media like this, can actually make it possible to reach audiences you´d otherwise never reach.
Thank you all for your attention - sorry I was out of contact for a few days.

Hey no prob. Thanks for getting back to us. Good Luck in your search. I don't know how many of those podcasters visit these forums. You might actually do better typing in an unusual subject + podcast in google and contacting them.

so u mean...casts that have a target audience that couldn't be reached without podcasting?
Something like, one about podcasting? That wouldn't have an audience without podcasting...
Or, one that's directed towards a sect of amish that only are allowed to dabble in technology relating to rss 2.0?
i think the categories are rather limited...

Like Kelli says, this is maybe not the forum where I get most response on subjects like this - can you recommend another forum??

I agree with Kelli, your best bet is to search directories, iTUNES and google.
Active forums are a rare thing. Good luck!
