View Full Version : Why not just blog it and use feedburner

My kids have a show, and all they do is use their blog and feedburner.
All you need is file storage.

They have a free provider of that for the price of ad space on the site.

are you wanting to debate the merits vs. benefits of this system?

Or, are you talking to yourself?

If it's the latter, forgive the interruption.

I thought that's how everybody did it.
Everything I use is free stuff. Blogger and feedburner. Then hosting with archive.org then it goes to fruitcast and hosted there for free. Infact they pay me.. Somethings in life are free...

I did that for a while, but it was slow. So I still use a blog, on a server I pay for. The software generates the feed (WordPress).

One of the issues I had with archive.org was sending them the file, it worked about 30% of the time. Now if they had an FTP upload service...

Yeah I agree, sometimes it's a big pain in the a** to get the file uploaded. Sometimes I have to go at it 2 or 3 times before it takes. But hey free is free.

I was simply wondering why the delema.

My kids use the free service.

I have a regular site built by my producer, that has a seperate RSS feed and doesn't use the free service.I've never had a problem with either one being too slow or breaking down, bandwidth issues or anything bad, and we have a large audience with a good number of downloads.

You almost sounded like you took it personal.

I use SwitchPod myself.

I got in before they made up a price tier for different needs.

$6/month gets me unlimited bandwidth and unlimited space, as well as no ads placed in my podcast or plastered all over my site.

I like it for my needs, but everyone is different.

While we're on the topic of Feedburner, I wanted to know about the Blogger/Feedburner connection. If I use Blogger, what's the best way to get Feedburner to work with it?

Should I let Blogger make its own RSS file?

Should I generate my own RSS File using another program?

Does Feedburner even need to be pointed at an RSS file, or are links on a Blogger main page enough to work?

And does an RSS file need to contain the Itunes tags in order for your feedburner feed to be Itunes ready?

Any help would be appreciated.

I've been using Blogger / Feedburner / Web Host (bluehost) / Audio Host (libsyn) combo for more than a year. It's cheap, it works, it's easy. I'm not married to it, but I haven't seen a particular need to change yet. Heck I wouldn't really need BlueHost but it's also cheap and reliable and I host other sites on it.
