View Full Version : Skype - Audacity - Two Sound cards and a USB Mic?

Ok, I have searched around these forums, but without much luck. I am looking to get a USB mic, but need some advice from the smart people here.

Right now, I have two sound cards and a cheap headset (with the 1/8" connections)

Anyway, from Soundcard 1 Line Out I go to Soundcard 2 Line In. My mic is plugged into Soundcard 1, and then I 'open' up the mic so I hear my own voice and then set Audacity to record soundcard 2, that way, both me and the skype user are recorded on one track.

I want to have it so that I can do that with a USB mic, and I was wondering if I get a mic (say a CO1U) that I could set it so it would go thru soundcard 1 out to soundcard 2, and still record the skype conversation.

Did this make any sense? I hope so, because I want a better mic and be able to record the skype conversation with my two sound cards??

Thanks

Rob

It is probably not going to work. With USB mics they have there own soundcard built in. So you can't really do this with a usb mic.

That is what I was afraid of! LOL Thanks for your input.

Does anyone have any suggestions how I could record a skype conversation with a USB mic? Or, any other mic. Would I need a mixer?

I am pretty dumb with this stuff, so speak in simple terms for a simple mind! LOL

Thanks

Rob

I know software like mixcastlive can do that. You can also do it with a mixer, but not with the usb mic.

I could use a USB mic with MixCastLive, and still record skype. But I would need a different mic, if I was to get a mixer??

Thanks
