mics always on

I have set up a studio with a Mackie Onynx 1220 with a Firewire connectivity card feeding into a G5 iMAC. My mics (2 Shure SM7B's) are always on and will be recorded even when the faders are all down and the power is turned off on the mixer. I am running a lot of gain on those two mics. When I tried to play my theme song from iTunes to record into Audacity, I picked up my mics which were turned off. Help!

you have to goto volume controls, then click options, the properties, then it will have a dot click thing and clikc adjust volume for recording, make sure than microphone or watever input ur using on ur computer is checked, most likely it is checked for line out, so it is recording wat u play, but u thin that ur mic is picking it up....by the way this is thw windows volume control

my bad i didnt notice u have a mac...but im sure therre is a similar way to do this
