I've been downloading about 9 2-30 min podcasts for the last 4 1/2 hours. Why does it take so long.Is this normal? It has taken longer to D/L most of the podcasts than it takes to actually listen to them. Any ideas? I'm using iTunes.

THanks!

How are you connected to the Internet? DSL, cable modem, dial-up?

If you're dialing in via modem, there's your answer. Podcast files typically run anywhere from 5 to 50 megabytes, and a modem connection can take a few minutes per megabtye.

My Connection is a LAN, 100 Mbps and it's still taking forever.

Is it one specifc show out of several, or all shows? If it's the one, I'd say you're downloading it from someone on dialup. If it's all, then perhaps your firewall is causing you trouble, or your ISP is purposefully making it difficult to download mp3 files because they figure you're a bloody pirate.

You could try canceling, and then restarting it.

You are not connected to the Internet at 100 Mbps. You probably have a cable modem or DSL connection, which is probably anywhere from 1.5 Mbps to 5 Mbps. That's the speed that matters.

Anyway, you're right that that's pretty slow. Is this one particular podcast or several different ones? Is it just slow today, or is it always like this? Is it only one podcast that's hung, or several of them? (I know that iTunes only downloads three at a time.) Are you also having a slow time downloading other content onto your computer? Have you tried one of the various speed tests (http://www.google.com/search?q=bandwidth%20test) to see if it's just your connection?

That's a lot of questions, but if you really want technical help you need to supply as much information as you can.

Ooh, that's an interesting possibility.

After all the questions, I was probably going to advise calling the ISP's technical support anyway. Could be something to ask them about.

My ISP won't let me upload mp3s to the server space on their server. It was annoying as hell before I got my own little parcel of land on the intarweb.
