Its been a while since I've posted here. Lately I've been talking to alot of podcasters about what I think the future holds for podcasting. Its mys 0s and 1s schpeel...

0s and 1s stored on servers are capable of being manipulated in ways that FM, satellite, and internet streams cannot. Audio on-demand is just the tip of the iceburg.

Alot of people are starting to dynamically generate and serve ad spots, thats something that can only be done with 0s and 1s, especially once its serving those ads fancilly (targeting demographics and geographics)... A few months ago Dailysonic built some home brewed tech to dynamically insert ads into our MP3s too... and as soon as we did that we realized the potential for dynamic audio is much greater than targeted ads. We recently relaunched our site with our spanking customization engine. Listeners can choose what segments they want to hear and when... the customization engine then stiches everything together in a single MP3... they can even throw local weather reports into their customized Dailysonic editions. (Every custom edition has its own RSS feed - of course)...

Here's another example of what the customization engine is capable of: Madlibs. Everytime you download this (http://www.dailysonic.com/segment701) Dailysonic segment, our server generated a new mad-libbed version of the Declaration of Independence on-the-fly...

Is there a limit to the malleability of 0s and 1s? Yes. For example, we can't mirror our site, or distribute the podcast as a torrent, because then our server couldn't generate the MP3 on the fly. This means higher bandwidth costs for us... beefier servers etc.

So... what do you all think?
