I happened to glance at the Wikipedia entry for podcasting this morning and ran into an interesting entry that I've never heard of before.
On October 11, 2004 the first phonetic search engine for podcasting was launched called Podkey to assist podcasters to easily connect to each other.
Is this another false entry? I've been doing this thing since last Feb. and the only phonetic search engine I've ever heard of was Podscope.

No, it's real, and the date in the article is accurate. It's not a "phonetic search engine" in the sense of Podscope, however -- it's an aliasing service that allows you to redirect "whatever.podkeyword.com" to your own RSS feed, along with any possible phonetic variations or misspellings of whatever. The idea being that all those aliases can go into podcast directories and search engines to make it more likely that someone keying on a particular search term will find your feed.
It's a real service, although whether it has value is a matter of opinion. I hadn't even heard of it until a couple of months ago, when the guy behind it was one-half of a rather spectacular flamewar that spread out over Slashdot, BusinessWeek, and a couple other major news sites. (One of their users had misunderstood the service, got pissed when he noticed that his "Podkeyword" alias on his RSS feed was more popular than his real feed, asked to get it turned off, lost most of his listeners, and took it to the press as "podjacking.")
If it showed up in Wikipedia, I'd say it's a 99% certainty that the mention was added by PodKeyword's founder. Not that there's anything wrong with that, of course. Editing the Wikipedia "Podcasting" entry to favor yourself is a favorite game in some circles. >8->

Interesting. I agree though... it's value as a reason for the popularization of podcasting is a matter of opinion.

Unlike Podscope, PodZinger actually uses speech recognition technology and not phonetic search.
It transforms the audio to text which makes it easy to search within the podcast.
