Listening to a Podcast?

For all the buzzing in the online community about podcasts and podcasting, you'd think the format had cracked open mass consciousness and was sweeping the nation with its shiny Web newness. But in checking the Buzz, we found that podcasts haven't yet made the mainstream. Stuck somewhere in our top 6,000 searches, it's safe to say podcasting has not reached the critical mass of IM (or even photo-tagging) -- yet.

Could there be a perception that podcasting is more of a dude type of endeavor? We know plenty of women out there podcast, but nearly 80% of searches on podcasts are from guys. If you're still scratching your head and asking "what is a podcast," you're not alone -- that query ranks among the top 20 podcast searches. For the rest of the top podcast buzz, we turn to our humble list...

I have to agree (for at least my show) videocasts do just a bit better than the podcasts do. My show is regional though... so it is no wonder. Has made me think about the direction of my show at times, although my listeners suggest not to change a thing.

I have no doubt that podcasting is continuing to grow into the mainstream consciousness. They have just released podcasts on Tivo and there are numerous other indications that it is getting huge.

I tell people about podcasting all the time. I was put in my company's newsletter as a featured employee because of my podcast. *Whoo-hoo! Publicity!* People came up to ask me about it. Stuff like that on a little scale over time helps make everyone familiar with it.

Give it some more time. Steve jobs will be taking the 7 billion dollars he just made from selling Pixar and re-investing it in some new aspect of ipod and promoting it and podcasting will be a big part of that, too.

Vidcast move up faster on the charts than Just audio shows. As for myself, I offer some video footage on my website, but not as a vidcast. I use it as an added incentive to be involved in my show.

I think Tivo is just the beginning.

What about a tv network of submitted vidcasts. People could just submit a link to the show and the network could download it. Reality tv at its best.

IMHO

Indeed, Video Podcasts are rocking the charts in the iTunes music store.
