I'm curious about something.
I was aproached about 3 months ago, and asked if I would move from Podcasting, and do an actual radio show.

What would you do?

why not see if you can do the radio show record it and have all intellectual right sto the copy to edit and post as a podcast or something like that...

That's actually one of the things we hope to accomplish with our show, at least locally anyway. We'd love to get on the air with a station here in Birmingham, as sports talk in this town is really lacking an MLB presence entirely.

We have been approached by a website which does syndicated call-in shows for sports about joining their network of shows, but we can't coordinate our schedules to allow all the hosts to be there on a specific time and day each week.

I'd do both. Get paid to do one, and then do your own, if possible. If not, follow the monkey's advice and see if you can't continue to own all rights to the show. You could, for example, agree only to sell them "First American Rights," which would enable you to release your podcast the minute the show ends.

Of course, what this tells me is that someone thinks that advertisers would be interested in buying time during your show. And if that's the case, then might they also be interested in buying time on your podcast? So you could keep all the advertising revenue?

Just a thought

What would you do?

If it had to be an either/or?

I'd try to do budget and revenue forecasts for both, along with audience growth estimates, and decide which one was most likely to get my message out *and* earn me a living.

If the answer was radio, then adios. Podcasting would still be here if the radio thing didn't work out.

(Of course it's easy for me to say all this -- my format isn't likely to succeed in radio, so I'm in no danger of having to choose.) >8->

What did you do?

Or are they still waiting after three months?

If so, DO IT.

I would do both, and see if you can get the radio show done as a podcast.

Interesting topic and I agree, I was not sure what to think as I have been asked by two NPR stations here...

I had to ask myself why I got into Podcasting in the first place. While the jobs offered are for NPR podcasting, I just could not go there. Here is why... I feel it would put a limit on the whole purpose I got into podcasting in the first place - well... to have fun!

Sure I hope in one way or the other podcasting would turn into something I could for some sort of cash flow - it did not fit my vision. I felt I may loose the spirit of it all.

Good topic!

Well . . . if it would infringe on my creative freedom, no. I would not move to radio. And, if it didn't, I would.

Plus, I would continue doing the podcast for the subscribers (because I am assuming that the only reason a radio station would ask for me is because I had proven to hold and captivate a large audience), and let the radio station play each episode, too.

I haven't tossed the idea out and neither has the people who contacted me.
