I was looking at one of my reviews, and I noticed a few things mentioned to point a listener to their own podcast. Has this happened to anyone else?

nah, but I cheated and asked people who read my blog to go write a review. I'm shameless.

I've seen similar stuff in the iTunes reviews. More often, though, I see people giving bad reviews to a podcast and comparing it to another podcast on the same subject, telling people to go to the other podcast because that person writing the review likes the podcast they recommend better. For example, on another WoW podcast, that I listen to now and then, I've seen a few reviews say stuff like "not as good as Taverncast" or "go listen to Taverncast instead."
Personally, I hate that.
I'd rather that people just review the podcasts they review for what they are, and not compare them to other podcasts dealing with the same subjects. I've already said to my listeners that I don't want them comparing other WoW podcasts to mine, and vice versa. Why? Because we're not trying to be the same **** podcasts. We all, no matter what the subject, want our podcasts to be ours. With our own styles. And our own views. Etc.
But, I dunno, maybe I'm weird.

We don't have control of it. It's a free service, why should we?
Are we just a bunch of control freeks, looking to systemize, compartmentalize, and organize the world to our standards, needs, wants, and desires?
YES!!!!!!!!!

I wouldn't worry about the bad reviews. I would just offset it with listeners who do like your podcast. Sometimes any review is good PR.
Getting people who like your blog and podcast to go to iTunes is a great way to build up those good reviews (thanks for the idea).

I haven't had a bad review. The two I have are 4 stars, but one was like an ad.

Was it an ad for your podcsst or someone elses? I find that most people have gotten very good at seeing spam and self promotion and they take it as as just that. In fact, if it was someone elses promotion, most potential listeners would be turned off by someone promoting their podcast in your review.

Well it would be nice except no one knows about my podcast... ah for some reason I don't think my friends and family especially would approve of my podcast topic----
"Cum Back To Life With Rendezvous Radio"
Can't see my grandmother voting for my masturbation feature and don't think the hubby would vote for me since I am having an affair and podcast about it!!
Watcha think?!?!

Wow, with a comment like that, I hope you get caught. That's a major no no in my book.

Thanks Steve! That really wasn't nice to say...you hope I get caught! I just meant that the reality was that no one knows about my podcast because of the nature of the content.
And please, before you JUDGE..take a listen. Its truly informative with some light humor. The content is adult but it is done in a tasteful manner and not at all pornographic. I'm sorry if I offended you, I didn't mean to!

Ummm,...How is having an affair in good taste?
Just curious. I'm not condeming you, but your actions warrant concern. If your show is just pretend, that's one thing, but, I have an issue with people who cheat, because relationships and marrages are being made a joke of in America. The reason I said, That I hope you get caught, is because of the person you are being unfaithful too, not with. I don't take it back or apologize for it.

Actually Steve, I have chosen to hold my tongue...because this is not the place for this discussion. Feel free to contact me at my email if you feel the need to further discuss passing judgment on others, morals, life, marriage or even sex.
The point WAS the voting system.
With no votes you are in the 3,000's, with 2 votes 1300's, with 14 votes the top 400. 47 votes will get you in the top 100. So until you break the top 50, it's anyones opportunity. I think the best way to look at it is that it is an opportunity to get more exposure if you can just get the 47 votes.

Why are you missquoting me now?
You through your laundry out there, and I made a comment.
But I didn't say what you stated.
I do however agree with your statement on voting.
My show stays in the top 25 in sports with only 10 or so votes a month.
My highest has been 10.

How did you come up with these numbers? Does Apple actually rank every podcast somewhere in iMusic? I thought that the number of itunes subscribers had something to do with it too. Now you've got me really curious...

He was refering to Podcast Alley ranking, not iTunes.

I've not really thought alot about being in the top 100, I just think of each vote as another likely listener. If I get 10 votes a month, I'm pretty happy to think that I must have at least 10 listeners (or 10 people who have mistakenly voted for me :) )
Do we really get more exposure if we're in the top 100 on PCA? If so, how?

I hope this doesn't sound bad. I wont settle for medeocre. Wh y would anyone set out to do something and try to be, "Just OK" at it. That doesn't make sense to me.
It's like going to your job everyday, and saying, "I'll only do what I absolutely have to do, and nothing more."
I fire people that think like that.
That's what is dragging this country down.
People need to expect more from themselves and stop this useless "Quest For Medeocrety"
Get with it, and strive to be the best you can be.

Nope, it doesn’t sound bad at all, in fact it’s an excellent point, yet one which would be valid if the goal here was “to be the best PodCast on the planetâ€. My goal, and the goal of a lot of PodCasters is much simpler than that. In my case I want to produce an entertaining show that appeals to the ‘average runnerâ€. Could I produce a show of higher excellence? Maybe, but that would likely require a lot more time and resources than I’m willing to invest.
This is a hobby, not a profession. If it was my primary source of income, or a career: I’d be standing right next to you on that “soapbox†helping you to wave that “anti-mediocrity flagâ€. I agree with you, I’ve had to fire people for doing only their minimal expected work at my office, and I do think there’s a prevalent feeling in this country (USA) that workers should only do the minimal expected of them…but we’re not talking about a profession here:
We’re talking about a “hobbyâ€.
I don’t take my show all that seriously (it’s just a PodCast!), I am happy that I have at least 10 listeners. There are at least 10 other runners who appreciate my show, and that’s a pretty cool thing.
Anyway, my question remains: Do we really get more exposure if we're in the top 100 on PCA? If so, how?

Sorry Steve, this is petty but you were railing against the "mediocre" people reveling in their "mediocrity".
It's funny how when we are being a little pompous that life turns up the irony.
Happens to me all of the time, so no malice towards you.

LOL!! Yeah, you're right: I apologize if I came off a little pompous...I need to go out for a run!
I have a habit of saying and writing dumb things on a far to frequent basis!
Sorry 'bout that!

Sorry wrong steve.
Steve Pinder said medeocre and medeocrety. Not you.
If you want though I have a ton of stuff that I need to blame on others.
Are you up for it?
