Hi guys thought you might be interested in some Audacious (http://www.audaciousonline.com/blog/articles/2006/01/06/audacious-podcast-predictions/) podcast predictions for 2006!

1. The Podcast Network or PodShow will be bought by AOL late in 2006 and the deal will allow commercial music to be played by all podcasts in the network.

2. There’ll be a greater separation between commercial podcasts and those produced by independent producers, but the two will co-exist happily.

3. 2006 will be the year of the business podcast with 50% of FTSE 100 companies producing a podcast to complement their internal or external communications strategies. The vast majority will have experimented with podcasting during the year.

4. Virgin Radio will launch a digital radio station entirely devoted to airing independent music podcasts.

5. The BBC will employ a podcaster in its push to discover and nurture new radio talent.

6. The increased use of podcasting by businesses will prove to be the final nail in the coffin of the in-house magazine which has already been in decline thanks to intranet technology.

7. BAFTA will include podcasts in an interactive media category, following the move of its Scottish counterpart in 2005.

8. Podcasting will be big for small business as increasing numbers use the new medium to develop stronger, more personal relationships with their customers.

9. There’ll be uproar in the education sector as some accuse universities of encouraging students to stay in bed by introducing podcasts of lectures.

10. The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian will launch an extensive range of podcasts, building on early successes with the medium in 2005, competing head on for Radio 4’s intellectual listenership.

I'm quite intrigued by this one. The natural evolution of online classes?

I would have loved this back when I was in college.

Oh, yeah. This prediction is definitely gonna happen. I have seen more little blurbs and news articles and even the local colleges around town and my wife's school all discuss individual class feeds that students would subscribe to (with the class password, of course.)

Its going to be a great way for a professor to deliver lectures and updates to the students.

I don't know...maybe it won't be so bad afterall. If you can't lick em join em! What's good for the geese is.......you know!

Our future holds in store a lot of potential. Not all to our desires if we enclose a closed mind. The future looks brighter for the young at heart. The only complaint I have is that one life won't do with all the time saving devices that let you do so many things wherever and whenever. If only we could address the time wasters like eating and sleeping!

I already do this at our college. We encode the Distance education classes live and then have them available by date for the entire semester over the web to the students enrolled in the class.

Its not RSS delivered, but they are available for the students to watch at home.

I work in a small government office where we have customers continously come and ask for digital data and need assistance on how to use it. I can see us starting a podcast on what is new on our downloads page and how to use it.

Here are my thoughts:

I predict that it will become more acceptable to roll your eyes if someone has never heard of podcasting.

I predict that a large number of CEOs will panic and make it their webmaster's latest responsibility to "do a podcast" without even understanding what they are asking them to do. But it will still give them huge bragging rights on the golf course.

Universities will jump on board, augmenting their alumni newsletter with an alumni podcast. The first podcast-a-thon is board, soliciting donations for the alma mater via year-end podcast.

Bono will host a podcast.

I also predict that republicans and democrats will jump on the podcasting bandwagon like crazy for the 2006 elections, and that one independent party podcaster will be the only one using it effectively and getting elected in a surprise upset in one district. Pundits on Fox News will promptly brand podcasting as the "latest attack from the liberal media".

Watchdog groups and politicians gearing up for the presidential race will start targeting popular podcasts, demanding that they be censored for content and language to "protect the children". In turn, those show will find an even larger audience.
