View Full Version : Can I say, "#1 sex show"?

Here at podcast alley there is no 'section' for 'adult' or 'sexuality'. Thus, I am 'general'.
I'm currently #11 in general, which puts me above every other sexual show except soccergirl, whom I consider more a porncast than a podcast - but that's just me.
Argue this: I am the #1 (or #2) sex talk show in the world!
It looks good in print, but is it even close to true?
Keep in mind, I mean 'advertising true' not 'court of law true'.
I'm asking because I know nothing about raking systems. I don't even know a lot about podcasting, yet. So, feel free to educate me.
Thanks.

Congratulations! Where are you in other directories? I'm not saying I'm an expert on advertising, but can any of us count ourselves as #1 in the world from one directory?
Think about radio. If there's a large radio station in California or somewhere, and they have several talk show hosts, can the top host at that station say he's the #1 talk show host in the world if he's not on other radio stations and doing very well?
I know it's a bit of an unbalanced comparison, so take Dawn and Drew. They're at the top across the board.
I guess my point is, even though Podcast Alley is the most popular directory (or fairly even with iTunes...I'm not sure), you would have to provide advertisers with concrete information, and if that information could be pulled from several places, then you'd be in great shape.
Maybe you could say you're #1 or #2 in the most popular Podcast Directory in the World?
What does everyone else think?

I'm the 13th best music podcast in the world! LOL!
no.
i dont care about popularity inside the podcasting community, as long as im popular with my target audience.
I personally don't think that saying 'the #1 show about potatoes' would really have any effect..but that's probably my case, yours may be different.

That's certainly an interesting take, Jay. My podcast is a philosophy podcast, right? So basically, here's what I want my podcast to do:
Influence the people who listen to it.
Feel successful because I know that I influence people with it.
Popularity is nice, but I don't see it coming anytime soon so I don't count too highly on it.

You're right, EVERYONE wants that, but it's just a matter of priority. Like, for you maybe feeling successful holds more power..for me, it's just knowing people are listening and responding via emails etc.. it depends from person to person.

I hate to...

But... No, your not #1, #2, or #3 or....
By my limited research I've found that popular "Sexual" Podcasts include:
D&D
KATG
NaD
SGinc
Yeast Radio
PNSexplosion
Fox in the City
Feast of Fools
Seduction & Strip Clubs
Eat Bird
To name a few, check out their overall votes and rankings, then decide if you are indeed the #1 "sexual" podcast.
;)
this was brought up in this thread:

So, sex podcasts are in 'comedy'!? Great, really helpful. Why isn't there an 'adult' section?
Also, please notice that I never said I was number 1 or 2 or 3. I was just giving an example.
Oh, and thanks jack, the other thread did help some. At least I'm now slightly less confused about the rankings crap....
