Okay I am about to start a podcast, but i will need a cheap host that will allowing shows that could be up to around 26 MB maybe an MB more or two.
I would also like a large amount of bandwidth
I've have looked at quite a few hosting sites by now, but I would like opinions and suggestions from fellow podcasters who know what they are talking about

I find Blue Host at http://www.bluehost.com/ to be everything they claim. Reasonable price, large storage space and 250 gb of bandwidth a month.

I use audioblog.com and they allow you to select 44kHz stereo, 22 kHz stereo, or 22 kHz mono and then it converts it after the file is uploaded. If you have a talk show (as opposed to a music show), it can be worth it to allow the file to be compressed to 22 kHz stereo and save a lot of server space.

I've been using Libsyn (http://www.libsyin.com) since the iTunes 4.9 launch. They initially had issues handling all the traffic, but now seem to have overcome all problems.
$5/month = 100MBupload/month = Unlimited bandwidth
$10/month = 250MBupload/month = Unlimited bandwidth
Now that things to be running smooth over there, that's hard to beat. Especially with the good stat engine they have.

I originally used www.vizaweb.com but if your show takes of you're going to need that bandwidth. Also if you want to have back issues you need storage. Libsyn (http://libsyn.com/signup.php?ref=74b3efcb529e2483e031c93e94492bc6)ha s unlimited.

I FINALLY checked that out... It's got pretty good stats, only problem is it locks you in for a year which i think is gay.

do u really think you're going to switch services in the middle, whatever your services are? not taht you would want to, with this. even if u want more like transfer u cud just start hostin files on libsyn or something, but keep everythin else on SG

I'm sticking with Libsyn right now. I like the unlimited transfer bandwidth. Just makes it one less thing to have to consider. Being neurotic, I tend to do the math every day trying to see if I'm bumping up to my limit, despite not even hitting 10% of it.
So, yeah. Libsyn's nice. Quick and easy. When I get my main company site up and running, I'll probably ditch the blog page, but still use it for the storage and the feed.

I'm pretty much anti-libsyn. For a reason, it just felt like a cheap service. Hosting for me isn't a problem due to my friend has hosting he lets me use for my episodes. But if your looking for something easy, I guess you could use libsyn. But if you can afford more, then it's worth getting your own hosting plan off of, Libsyn.

I've been using Libsyn's little brother: BlogMatrix, since September for podcasting made even easier. Their pricing is the same as Libsyn, with unlimited bandwidth, but the Blogmatrix system rarely goes down, while Libsyn...

audioblog was ok till my show "took off". 5gb of bandwidth is nothing for a weekly hourlong music show, and now with over 100 downloads per show, I have had 30gb DAYS! That is also a $30 day at a buck a gig....
I NEED a new hosting service...
I am going to check libsyn and siteground.
heck, I got into podcasting to save $$ compared to my other hobbys, and this month my podcast hosting is going to set me back roughly $100...
That's a lot of Old School bike parts!

That's one way to keep the price down - bill once and leave alone for 12 months, instead of tracking down users every four weeks.
You pay more for an XBox game than for one year of web hosting. Usually, if you go with a 1-year agreement, you get a host that gives you all sorts of goodies - free blog, free forum, CGI-scripting, personal POP mail - and often you can run a bunch of domain names through that very same server with little or no extra charge.

It depends on how much you want to do yourself. It seems people either hate Libsyn or they love it. Personally. they have made my podcasting experience a breeze.
You get an easy to manage blog space for show notes, which you could host elswhere if you wished.
You get unlimited bandwidth, which some have postulated could end up being limited. I have not heard of any instances where this was true however.
You can use your doman name.
You get excellent stats.
Your RSS is handled automatically if you don't want to roll your own.
Early on they had problems, they were a shoestring startup. But they have continued to improve and feel very solid lately.
When you need support, you will deal with the owners/engineers, support is better than most hosts. Thier forums are helpful.
I know there are other opinions, but I wanted to balance the anti-Libsyn sentiment.
Podcasting is actually pretty easy, it should be even easier.
If I were begining, I would start there.

A one year committment to a service is gay? Wow, there are billions of homosexual cellphone users out there. Who'da thunk it.
