Does anyone know what file types can be associated with iTunes?

<ITUNES:LINK rel="image" type="image/jpeg" ref="http://www.mysite.com/myimage.jpg">

Can that be png, bmp, gif, etc....?

I'm using png. I'm scared to change it without checking. Anyone using jpeg?

I'd go with .jpg or .gif as those are the web standards.

PNG is great but sometimes doesn't work.

Here you go: http://phobos.apple.com/static/iTunesRSS.html

" iTunes prefers square .jpg images that are at least 300 x 300 pixels, which is different than what is specified for the standard RSS image tag.

iTunes supports images in JPEG and PNG formats. The url must end in ".jpg" or ".png". If the itunes:image tag is not present, iTunes will use the contents of the RSS image tag."

Straight from the horse's mouth. Although it's a web standard, it seems you're better of staying away from .gif files. I image it may have something to do with file formats that iPods and the iTunes app can handle and properly scale. Since .gif has a limited range of colors, pixilation may be likely.

FWIW, I've found a few slurper sites that assume your image is a perfect square and will resize you as a square so everything looks "just right" at their sites.

As a result, I'd really recommend 300x300 with a jpg image. I've never seen that go wrong.

just for the record:
.png doesn't work with most flash players. So, it looks like jpg wins!

Wow, I didn't know that - you'll learn something new every day. That's too bad, since the .png format is so versatile.
