Hello everyone!
My name is Michael Bailey and I have just opened up a new site in beta.
I'd like to welcome everyone to stop by and check it out.
AudioMerge
http://www.audiomerge.com/
I have used Episode #112 from Podcast411 as a demo - the link is to the right once you get to the site.
What the site basically let's you do is merge up your verbal content with images, links, etc. through the use of our post-production studio.
Of course, playback can only work during an online session, but there are hooks in place which will allow you to receive statistics such as
For each project:
How many total playbacks
The total download count
For each page displayed you get:
How many impressions
How many click-throughs
Effectiveness in percent
For Poll/Survey pages:
How many impressions
The results of your polls
For Pay Pal donation page types:
How many impressions
How many completions
I'm still working on the site, but I do welcome any and all comments.
Thanks again,
Michael

Hello again!
We have just placed a sample report online.
www.audiomerge.com - look to the right and lick on the PDF link.
Also, we have decided to make a mini-version of the player.
One without room for visual adverstisements, but with provisions to insert 'marker-ads'.
Then, if you create a project, and use our player, you'll be able to track how many marker-ads have been hit.
i.e., you'll be able to evaluate the attention span of your online listening audience.
Also, one final note on 'chapter pages'
Both of our players will soon include the ability to skip ahead and/or back to designated chapters (or portions) of your podcast.

Hi Michael:
The final product looks a lot like an enhanced podcast. A number of the statistics can be captured through Feedburner tracking.
It also looks like this will only work if listeners have your audio player running on their machine. That, to me, takes away everything that makes podcasting work the way it is.

Thanks for the synopsis, Erika! That answered my questions.
You kept me from having to even click on the link to bother looking into it.

Yeah, requiring a specific app to hear a podcast severely limits its audience.

There is no app required - it's a flash player, just like all the others.
What it DOES do is provide the podcaster with analysis data which isn't currently available anywhere else.
I agree with you if you mean that you cannot listen to it offline, however, if you compare the number of Internet users (audience potential) with the number of people who own portable MP3 players, you'll see a huge difference.
May I suggest that you have another look at it?

sorry dude, but i do believe you're a bit jaded.....
the majority of downloads of a podcast come from aggregators for offline listening.
don't mean to be rude, but in the times we currently are in, those above have very valid points.

Not taking it as rude - I think that I just failed to make my point.
The point I was trying to make is that you are leaving OUT a vast majority of people who are already online.
For everyone 2 people that I personally know who own an MP3 player, I could list at least 300 people, or more, who don't own one. And of those 2 people, only 1 of them actually uses it on any sort of regular basis, yet the 300 people remain online.

I believe someone is pushing here something no-one wants. I would improve my salesman's talk, refurbish the app a bit for looks and try again. Who knows someone will fall for it then.

The majority of our listeners stream the show from an internet connected PC (alot of them from work.) I wouldnt rule out the cellphones yet either, FYI. But the pod-people are starting to catch up though.
As for advertising, an awesome resource is to direct users to sites like podcastalley for their streaming. That way you generate hits for, say the alley, and they also eventually may list your show in a top (whatever) list. Very powerful form of advertising. If you have a player on your site, they will never go to your page elsewhere, thus ... well all the best wishes on your project.
You should load the images from the rss feed bro. If you want the banner size, then define and add it to your own space. There are quite a few sites out there now and signing up to each of them, adding the images to your database, etc gets a bit overwhelming...

podcasting needs to be a household name like email or www before this would be needed by those you are trying to target.
right now, it is just starting to be known by those non-tech savvy people online. and still, it is relegated to those non-techies who own itunes and an ipod.

I really appreciate constructive criticism. All I would ask is that if you have something to say to me, please direct it to me.
And again, it's not an app, it's a player.
It needs nobody to 'fall' for it, it merely needs people who desire a way to measure their playback statistics.
Some people are just fine with using a download count. Perhaps they really don't want to know that only 20% of their show is actually listened to. That's fine, then it's not for those people.
It is rather funny that when you simply ask for others to try something out for free, that this sort of response is generated. But, that is typical human response, isn't it?
Any new idea is usually balked at, then talked about, then perceived as if it was their idea all along. :-)
That's great - I have a vision of how certain things are going to be, and I am persistent, and I am willing and capable of changing things if they need to be changed.
For example, I have a group of educators from Canada who are looking at ways to use the system for an audio/visual learning process. That might be cool.
Anyhow, this is the 'Advertising in Podcasts' topic, so I think that what I am discussing fits. I don't see many other solutions being discussed.

Micheael,
People spam this forum ALL THE TIME. Your initial post sounds EXACTLY like the crap we've heard a million times before. You paid for the sins of those before you.
Constructive criticism: Read a few of these spam posts and try to make yours sound unlike them. Or, better yet, promote the way we all do: Put a link in your signature, and contribute to the forum on random topics.
It's not your fault, engineers aren't supposed to be marketing gurus, but the wrath of a podcaster is the wrath of a person with a LOT of free time ;)
Now you know. Good luck with your player.

Thanks Prof Tom,
Yes, unfortuantely that is the state of the Internet - so far removed from what it once was. I started back in the days of Archie searches and no images anywhere. Good thing that I still love to read, albeit online, one sure does need to wade through a lot.
