Has anyone used these servies that "connect podcasters with advertisers."? looks like they insert ads into your podcasts and then give you a per centage of their profit based on how big your audience is.
Please let me know if you've tried this....

'bout ready to launch a 5-week campaign with RadioTail. Currently uploading back episodes and setting insertion points. Luckily, I've retained the Adobe Audition *.ses files and the audio segment files, so it's easy to reload the session and find the time code for the break between bits. Will report back next week with how it goes.

I've actually spoken with Mark at Podtrac at great length and I think Fruitcast and Podtrac are somewhat different.
Podtrac measures your audience size and demographics through a listener survey on your website and by tracking your show's downloads. From there they pair you up with an advertiser. They don't do any sort of ad-insertion or mess with your content or feed in any way.
Fruitcast is a bit different. Their goal is to actually change your show file adding an ad either at the beginning or end, or both ends of your show. Using them requires that you give them your current feed, then they issue you a new "fruitcast" feed that you publish.
They are two pretty different approaches to advertising, but both companies do seem to be very willing to hear feedback from podcasters.
Hope this helps.

I've heard nothing but good things about podtrac. I met with some of their folks out at the expo and they seemed great in person. Threw a **** nice hotel party. Oh yeah.
I know next to nothing about fruitcast except for what I just learned from Scott.

Yes, my impression of Podtrac was very favorable as well. They are definitely interested in fitting themselves into what works in podcasting rather than trying to get podcasters to jump through their hoops.

Rob at Podcast411 (http://podcast411.com) is interviewing Podtrac this week for an upcoming episode (maybe even for Wednesday). He had a series of pretty hard-hitting questions for them, and was pretty excited about it. Hopefully Rob was able to get some good answers from them.

Here is the post I am adding in the pimp your show section - but it fits here as well.
For our 112th show we interview Mark McCrery – CEO of Podtrac. We talk about Podcasters and Advertisers and what services Podtrac offers for Podcasters. We also talk about their T’s and C’s if you want to sign up. Plus a whole lot more… If you are even remotely thinking about putting advertisements on your show – this interview is a must listen to – Mark cuts to the chase and is very open with what Podtrac has to offer.

I was just contacted by Radiotail too, sounds pretty good! I've been signed up with Podtrac for well over their "few week waiting period" with no e-mails, do you need a certain amount of traffic or a certain amount of surveys filled out for this to work?

Fruitcast had the line "its as easy as changing your RSS feed" at one point on their website. Obviously - they have no clue.

The PodTrac period, specifically, I believe is two months. That's what Mark told me anyway, I believe, when we decided to work with him on advertising in TPN podcasts.

haha, no kidding eh?
Well anyways, to wrap it up, I've removed Podtrac from my site/podcast cause I've signed up with a deal on RadioTail with Nikon Cameras :D

Greg at RadioTail has been a good guy to work with. I'm in the middle of a 5-week ExpertFlyer campaign with RadioTail and it's working well. He also provides some nice stats on each podcast.
I still have the link to the Podtrac listener survey on my site. I think it will provide some interesting demographic data, though given that it's just a Zoomerang survey, I could probably just as easily put one together myself and not have to wait 2 months for the results

The important thing with all these services is whether or not they can tie down advertisers. Mark from Podtrac is actually flying around the country meeting with potential advertisers.
I learned my lesson about being too excited when ipodverts came out and every one got dollar signs in their eyes. The service that comes along and actually turns podcast audiences into revenue will be the one that hits the pavement and ties down the advertisers...Podtrac seems to be that company. And they don't make you sign away everything you produce for the next three years.

didn't that happen to ronnie (the white-trash dumpster diver from mr. show) and he got all pissed off, took off his shirt, and ran away, mullet trailing in the wind?
