i am new to postcasting, we have a daily 90 minute show in a local radio from M-F. And i want podcast, from what i have learn is that 90 minutes is al lot of disk space. We dont think we are going to have that many downloads.

We want to make a new website for the podcast so if we change hosting companies in the future it will be transparent to our lisiners.

what company do you recomend to host our podcast. We can have the files in mp3 and upload it.

thanks for your help

libsyn, $5 a month for basic package thing, unmetered bandwidth (even only a few listeners downloading a 90 minute show takes up a lot), and just a monthly cap on uploads. after that month it gets archived.

if they get archived after a month, and a lisener wants to hear or download a program from 4 month old. Can he can or not

thanks

when it's archived, it's not moved or anything, the link and everything stays the same, but it's just a slower download. stays in the feed and everything.

how often do you let out a show?
oh daily wow...at what bitrate do you encode it?
rather, what's the average size of each show?

and by daily, do you mean, 5 days a week (week days?), or each and every 7 days a week

well i thought i used something really low, until i just checked, and found out i use 192.

id say 96 is...actually, im not the one to go to on this. but you've got 20 shows a month, and an option of 100-800 mb per month. that's 5-40 mb a show. i use 192, and with a 30 minute show i have 43 mb. you'd probably want to go with a much lower bitrate.

They've got a chart thing on their site, I've just discovered. Go check it out.

I'm down to 48kbps.

Talk is very different than music.

Leo Laporte's KFI podcast is 64kbps and sounds great (listening to it right now.)

Libsyn.com is a good service. You can start with the $5/month 100 MB/month plan and upgrade when you need to. Libsyn makes everything very easy...hosting as well as the blog.

I recorded a 40 minute show the other day at 80 kbps, and it was just under 30MB. If you record at 64kbps or 48kbps, you can probably get it MP3 file under 50MB. You're still looking at about 800MB/month of space....and Libsyn charges $30/month for that.

The space and bandwidth package is definitely nice with Godaddy.

For any newbie's knowledge, what are the easiest ways he/she can setup the podcast page using Godaddy?

I've use both Libsyn and another hosting account for 2 separate podcasts. With my hosting account, I had to do things very manually. My knowledge of HTML came in handy.

On the other hand, Libsyn easily does everything for you: blog page, uploads files and graphics, RSS feed, etc. It has a very nice statistics page where you can see all the downloads, etc. I even got on iTunes without any issues.

I like small. I like local. I love calling someone on their cell phone and getting my problems solved. They also aren't that much more expensive. www.evangar.net ask for Alex - tell 'em Tom sent ya! He'll give you a podcasters deal.

Hello,
I own and run www.switchpod.com we host files for podcasters. We have a free and paid service. Our free service is adsupported but we have a 30mb per file upload limit. Our paid service is $6 per month and we put no restrictions on your account. We also creat the RSS feed for you. Something some new podcasters have a lot of trouble with. All you have to do is select your mp3 file and click upload. Our service will do the rest of the work for you. Our paid members also get a very customizable wordpress blog to use.
Enjoy

$8.95 per month for only 75mb of storage is a really shitty deal. i get 300mb of storage for $3/monthly from uoindustries.com. i'm actually looking at libsyn because i'm already running out of space, they seem to be the best host out there.

Seems sh*tty at first.

Until you call Alex on his cell phone. He pulls over at an internet cafe (while on vacation) and fixes your problem.

Try that with your corporate rate service! I dare you.

But, hey - you saved 5 or 6 bucks this month. Good for you! :D

Sorry, guy but I'm in podcasting because I don't care for the dominant paradigm. Why the heck would I pay godaddy? Why not clear channel?

Down south we call this penny wise and pound foolish.

I'm not trying to knock your opinion. But c'mon - porshe or pinto? You've heard this before.

uoindustries always has someone on aim ready to help. did i ever mention godaddy? oh and it's not my "opinion", it is a crap deal whatever way you look at it.

That's not fighting.

You were supposed to say, "No, your mama."

If you can't play by the rules, then you'll have to go to podcast pickle. :()
