Hi,
For some video stuff I am using QT Pro in order to convert my movies to mov format.
I don't know much about apple stuff since I have usually just used windows/window media player. Is there a way to configure my link to a mov file which will allow it to "pop up" in the same manner as WMP does when (for example) a wmv file is clicked? With Windows/IE, a new browser window is opened and for the casual surfer who may be unfamiliar with QT, it almost appears as if nothing is happening (especially for larger files).
I'll ask another question here too: If you had to choose between video formats for a video podcast and had to choose just one.... which would you choose? I'm not an apple guy at all but it seems to me that the mov format which is playable on ipods, macs and windows would be the way to go.
Thank you in advance for your comments.

Actually .MOV files arnt playable on the iPod. Only H.264 and Mpeg4 files play on it. Just a clarification.
But if your not concerned with being 5g playable I'd go with .MOV myself.

in case you're wonderin...that H.264 and Mpeg4 things are .m4v ... or .m4p or .mp4 or .mv4...no its m4v, i believe. whatever!
i suggest the mpeg4 if its, you know, not too long and not too necessary of having good big screen...otherwise, id say mov because more computers and programs and browsers can play that

Do you mean you don't want QT movies to open in a browser window? I think that's the only way QT movies play from browsers - as a plug in. Actually, I don't like WMP taking control away from my browser. When I'm in my browser I like to stay in there...
I agree with you that QT movies can be confusing. Sometimes they just seem to sit there. But they're loading... Apple likes to get enough loaded before starting the show... Probably should have a "loading" message.. Most people ask visitors to be patient while the QT loads into the buffer.

Using QT pro, I imported an uncompressed AVI file and then chose H.264 for the purposes of exporting it. The file extension still says .Mov though.... Am I to presume it's Ipod playable?

Ok, I didn't know that... so thanks for the background on H.264. I just assumed that most Window's people have QT installed in their computer but now I'm wondering whether IE, regularly looks for QT plugin updates.

That's exactly it but only because in IE, it almost appears sometimes that nothing is happening, especially for longer files (and even worse for the surfer who isn't on a broadband connection, I would imagine). Before the big QT logo shows up, the browser seems to be doing nothing.... and the wee little tiny icon that shows up on the bottom left hand screen (indicating that something is downloading) is almost imperceptible.
Now that I am used to it, it's not such a big deal especially since I can export avi files to autoplay when in mov format. I'm just wondering how many people just give up because they assume nothing is happening.

Now that we're on the subject....
My problem is that I have a file that will play fine on iTunes, but will not load on the iPod. It's an .m4v file that was converted from a QT .mov file. The strange thing is, I loaded 5 files on iTunes and only 4 will load on the iPod. The others play and load fine. They were all edited and compressed the same.
Any idea's?
