I realize that this question doesn't technically involved podcasting but I figured if anyone might know the answer someone here would. We want to offer some MP3 and AAC files for download through our site. The thing that we're trying to do is set up a way that we can offer a special link so when someone clicks to download the file it would go straight to their iTunes library. However, we don't want have to set it up as a podcast feed.

Is there any way to do this? I've heard a bit about the "pcast" protocol and was wondering if that might be an option here. If anyone has any suggestions for how we might be able to accomplish this please let me know.

Thanks!

I don't have an answer, but on my windows machine if I click a mp3 on a site, windows asks if I want itunes to open it, which can be set as default. On my mac, A link is openned in the browser with quicktime or I can download but now itunes option.

If I understand your question, you want to know if there is a way to set up a link so that when click, it will find out if the user has itunes and download into the program library. Right? Cool idea but why.

Thanks for that info. The reason we're looking to do this is to make it easier for people that might want to download our content. The great thing about podcasting is the opportunity to set up a one-click subscription to a podcast. We are trying to establish something that's basically the same but without having to actually set up the podcast feed.
