I saw this over at Podcasting News:
http://www.podcastingnews.com/archives/2005/11/new_app_puts_in.html

One of the benefits that podcast had over streaming audio was that you could listen to a podcast whenever you want. You couldn't do that with streaming audio, but with this type of product that limitation doesn't seem to exist anymore.

What do ya'll thinks? Do you feel that this could have an impact on podcast?

I don't think so.

Download-on-demand/listen-on-demand is certainly a benefit of podcasting, but people seem to overlook the other half of that benefit. Once you know you want to listen to a podcast, you can "subscribe" and you never have to bother checking for new episodes again.

This X-OOM company doesn't mention anything about scheduling capabilities, so my guess is in order to record a streaming show, you'd have to know exactly when it's going to broadcast and time it/set it to record. That's just not a feasible solution, especially AFTER already knowing how simply it can be done with RSS.

You've got a good point regarding the scheduling. Also, what about the music licensing for these downloads? I know there's a fee that they pay for any music that shows up on the stream, but once they allow the downloading of those shows into mp3s, aren't they supposed to get a license for that too?

I remember this being a problem with the Rush Limbaugh podcast. He had to remove all the music on the show before he had it available on the podcast. :?
