At the Joan and Jeff SHow we're going to have some very famous guests appearing via skype this weekend and I was wondering what recording techniques people use in this situation?

Our guests are podcast hosts from the USA and we're in Liverpool England. We've tried out skype and the sound quality is excellent but I'm not sure how to go about recording this show. Any good suggestions?

If working with a Mac, Audio HiJack Pro.

Sorry did I say Podomatice, I meant Podomatic.

Joan and Jeff are the number 9 show on Podomatic today.

I have Wiretap Pro, so should I record everything that passes through the computer with Wiretap Pro, or, should I record everything we say into our mic here and have the guests record everything they say on their mic and then edit the two files together for better quality?

Do you think the audio quality isn't the issue, more the quality opf what we're talking about?

Thanks for advice and check out the Joan and Jeff Show

If you can, record your audio and the incoming Skype audio into separate files or even separate channels. (TotalRecorder allows me to record myself in Left and Skype in Right.) Then try and get them to record themselves locally as well. If all goes well, you'll have live-quality sound on all ends... If not, you can still fall back on your Skype audio.

Y'know GIZMO Project allows recording from within the app - its built in. Why can't someone (I'm no programmer) build a plugin for Skype, this is would be such a useful tool for Podcasters.

Another 'hack' is to connect your output (using montor for your voice) into another recording device / laptop. You can record the conversation in whole on that and transfer that across to your podcast later. Just an idea.

So we did the guest podcast with The Tipsy Chicks (those girls kick ***, they were so professional, we felt like amateurs, but they made it happen on the show, total respect goes to the Tipsy Chicks) and what we did was: we recorded our audio using wiretap pro and they sen theire audio file to us and I lined them up using spill from the headphones. Thank waves for the L2 ultramaximiser for getting the levels right.
