View Full Version : What's with this choppy audio?

I've been having a lot of trouble with audio that I record that ends up choppy when I listen to it later.

I'm conferencing using Skype with up to 5 other people. I'm using an iBook G4 running WireTap Pro to record both Mac audio (out) and my mic (in).

Any ideas on how I can prevent this from happening in the future (or why it's happening in the first place), or any ideas on any simple way to edit it the way it is?

You may have other problems... but everyone has issues with skype. The more people, the more I see it messing up.

Crazy. Don't know what that can be. It almost sounds like a soundfile on forward cue or something.

If it were me, I'd go in and toss my preferences to the Wiretap Pro and Skype. Then relaunch with a new session and see if it'll do it again.

Is it happening to the file "After" you've uploaded?

If so, check to make sure you did a "Binary" transfer and not ASCII"

That'll make it skip.

It doesn't happen after I upload. I play the raw recording from WireTap Pro and that's how it is. It's not consistent through the audio though, just in some parts.

And I thought I would also add that sometimes when speaking live, we hear each other fine, but then when I play the raw recording, there's a bit of a delay or often enough, our voices merge together so the question and response are heard at the same time...

There were a few reasons I thought of for why it might be happening, maybe someone else can shed some light:
- too many people on the Skype conference
- too slow of a machine to host the conference and keep a consistent recording (1.07 GHz with 256 MB RAM... does that even matter?)
- poor Internet connection? downstream: ~251 Kb/s, upstream: ~129 Kb/s

I'm experiencing something similar (although to a much lesser degree, the audio "skips" about every 5-10 seconds) on certain podcasts i download to listen to... a few episodes of "Barefoot Radio", and "The Signal" and a few of the "Tipsy Chicks" podcasts have been doing it. Any insight as to why would be appreciated.
