OK. I know this won't seem like a big deal to most of you but I was excited about it. A company in the UK has just released an anthology CD/DVD of Marilyn Monroe and it has some cool audio stuff on it that I have never heard before. Anyway, they are sending me a copy to review on my show and an extra one to give away as a prize!!

That's awesome congrats. I found out about your show on Podcast 411 but didn't listen to it until I was playing the podcast wars over at the pickle.

I am not a Marilyn fan (I like her fine just not a "fan"), but I found you podcast throughly enjoying and my wife and I now listen to it every chance we get. I thought I would just post this for others, who like I did, think that they have to be into the subject of a fan cast. Some people are just interesting and Marilynfan is one such person.[/url]

Hey, thanks very much for the feedback. I am so glad you are enjoying the show! I'm still trying to find the perfect balance to make non-fans and hardcore fans both enjoy listening to it. It isn't easy.

P.S. Keep an eye on podcast411 my interview should be posted soon!

Congrats,
I think people are starting to take Podcasting seriously. I spoke about a product on a show, and the sponsor saw a spike in traffic. So he contacted me and wants to sponsor the show. If you are looking for a contract, the Podcast Brothers have the start of one at http://www.portablemediaexpo.com/PodcastAdvertisingAgreement.doc (search for agreement at podcastbrothers.com )

You've got to be f-ing kidding me. What are you people, 12?

She gets a free cd from some no-name company in the UK and now she has sponsorship? Gimme a break. I knew you guys were all small time.

How can you guys actually congratulate this? People like you will RUIN podcasting. You keep sticking your noses into places they shouldn't be. By all of you no-talent *** clowns creating content, you flood the web with misconceptions of what a "podcast" is.

You make hard-working, well done shows look better, but at the same time, give a bad name to the format.

I don't want people saying, "Oh, you do a podcast? Yeah, I've heard those things, they're nothing special."

Please, stop doing your shows! Just because you CAN "produce" audio content that is downloadable via RSS, doesn't mean you SHOULD.

OOOOOOO!!!!

Give the girl a break - she got sent her first CD and she was happy about it. A few other people congratulated her because it was a nice thing to do. We both work at radio stations so get Cds sent all the time. It doesn't make us better people. I'd say the amount of interest that podcasting is causing in the UK would suggest that actually, given the freedom of choice, people will listen to what they actually WANT to and NOT what they are TOLD to.

Everybody likes mainstream cinema but Blair Witch Project was a big hit and half the records in the UK charts are made in home studios and bedrooms!

And as for the no-name-company-in-the-UK jibe...

...Bullies like you are EXACTLY the reason why the US is so unpopular globally. You should be ashamed. In case you hadn't noticed, the US is pretty much alone in the world and we're your only genuine ally. To disregard your only friend in such a flippant manner is at rude at very least. You probably don't know anything of world news though so I suppose I should let you off.

I don't normally get angry like this but I think you've been VERY insulting.

Well done, Marilynfan - I've never listened to your podcast but I will now!

And before you attempt some belittling reply, talkradiodick, I have two radio shows in the UK, I am 35 years old and new to podcasting. I have a brain between my ears and I majored in American Studies so I DO know what I'm talking about.

Sorry if that sound big headed but it's catching around here!

Hey Paulyb -

My problem is that everyone babies and encourages this crap. This is a tough business.

I work my *** off along with many others, and to be put in the same category as these amateurs is simply rubbish. (A UK word for ya)

Plus, I'm just trying to stir up controversy, in all honesty.

Pauly b - I respect you. But stop trying to get some Marilyn ***.

It's funny because it seems that podcasting was started to give people something different than the crap on terrestial and streaming radio (like yours).

Celebrity news, prank phone calls and credible news? Man you are cutting edge. You're going blow up in a big way man. No one else is doing this. You're really thinking outside the box. Man.

hahahahahhahaha -

You are correct. We are the traditional morning show. I like to think that I offer a bit more than the average Shock Jock, but I can't say I'm going for some kind of "underground" outside the box show.

Reason being - Out side the box usually equals crap.

I mean, you're shows are outside the box. They're not mainstream - they hold no production value or sellable qualities.

So yeah - I definitely wasn't going for that indie feel when I started up my show 3 years ago.

To entertain you don't have to be "cutting edge" or "outside the box". "Classic" works just as well.

Your comment really had nothing to do with my post, but thanks for your stab.

Just curious - what are your goals? I mean, having 20-30 people visiting your website a week will only be exciting for a short time.

Holy Crap!

If you don't like it don't f'n post. People have some fun and send some good wishes to a podcaster who had something nice happen to them and you have to slam them. WTF. If you want to play "Shock Jock" then go a head but why piss on someone for having fun with podcasting. If you don't want to be lumped in with these "amatuers" then go get a job at a radio station.

I try and stay out of these angry threads, but you come here and hijack a positive thread to pimp you show. You want to bash this on your site fine, but give Melinda her thread back. jackass

I think you're missing the point. Podcasting is an outlet for all those people who either can't (or won't!) get into mainstream radio for whatever reason. Sure some of them are just using it as ego massage but for every bad podcast there's a good one, in exactly the same way that 90% of generic radio is just that - generic. UK radio (particularly commercial) is a pretty boring place to be whereas podcasting has a genuine guerilla feel to it that a lot of us find quite exhiliarating. If you want to tell the world how much you like your monkey to wear a light blue frock, you can - and the world will agree with you if it wants.

Who'd have thought we'd have got all this from a free Marilyn Monroe CD! I don't know where your heart belongs, mate, but mine belongs to Daddy.

You clearly mean well and I am the first bloke to stand up and demand professionalism, but give the girl a break.
