View Full Version : Make voting easier...pretty please

I have about a dozen shows I diligently vote for every month here on the Alley (well I don't pay you guys for my hours of entertainment so it really is the least I can do). Literally the absolute least.
But it's so annoying...every month I gotta come and search for my first favourite show and do the voting thing for the first one then refresh (I can't seem to vote for a different show without refreshing) then search and vote and refresh and search and vote and refresh and...you get the picture
Couldn't I have a list of my favourite shows somewhere stored? In my profile maybe? So then I could just go to my favourites list and vote for them (I wouldn't mind doing that one-by-one) (although of course a single "vote for all my favourites button" would be just dandy).
Or maybe I'm being lazy.
Probably I'm being lazy.
Sorry for being lazy.
But I just figured that now that the Alley has new servers the site admin super-dude has nothing else to do so maybe he could help out a lazy Aussie

I feel your pain BSquared. I vote for about 40+ podcasts on a monthly basis and it is nerve-wrecking sometimes. That's why I like Podcast Pickle's set up. You have a favorites list and once you add them to your favorites they're there for good. No coming back month after month.
I think the reasoning behind the monthly voting at first was to get Alley's traffic up and look good for perspective buyers (i.e. podshow). Now that that has happened hopefully Chris is looking at changing this outdated voting system.

i have yet to figure out how to vote...i'm sure this is evidence to some that
i am 'oh so dumb' but to me it is evidence that the voting procedure is a
little obscure. (not that there is anything wrong with that)

The vote button next to each podcast is obscure?

The vote button next to each podcast is obscure?
where is 'each podcast'?
there is no 'vote for your fav. podcast' link on the homepage of the site. why?
so that leads me to say it is needlesly obscure....as the top 10 thing is the most
important thing (most talked about, etc) on the site....why not a huge big red link on the front page?
...so yes, its needlessly obscure.
but whatever- why do i question these things, CHAIRMAN CURRY in his wisdom
sees that all things are taken care of...

What on earth has Adam Curry got to do with the Alley? The global conspiracy again?

What on earth has Adam Curry got to do with the Alley? The global conspiracy again?
CHAIRMAN CURRY owns the 'alley' as of sept. 7th...thats what he has to do with it.
http://www.podshow.com/news/?p=21
no global conspiracy, CHAIRMAN CURRY just used some of that "17 million...strapped to his ***" to buy the site...a wise move indeed considering
the brian turst herien....
from podshow.com

my man asks:
"What on earth has Adam Curry got to do with the Alley?"
and i have to say:
hahahahahhhhhhh....bwhahhahahahahhaahhahahahahahah hahahha
how could you ever question the wisdom and power of the PARTY under the
guidance of CHAIRMAN CURRY.
please note: podshow-network/podcast alley officalls that i am note being rude,
only trying to point out the podcasters who are not faithful to the PARTY and
CHAIRMAN CURRY.

Well, once upon a time it got some of them in the newspapers. Journalists earlier in the year would go to Podcast Alley, see the Top 10, and say "Aha! Those are the people I ought to interview." I don't know how much it's happened in the past several months, and as PA fades in relevance (which it has been, for reasons totally unrelated to this week's tempests) journalists are finding other ways to identify the newsworthy podcasters.
Votes are great junk food for the ego, and I'm certainly flattered that a few people have chosen to vote for my show. But what makes it flattering is that I've never, ever asked for votes, or iTunes clicks, or any of the other metrics. Spending any time at all asking for votes cheapens both the show's content and the value of the compliment.

Well we've gotten off the original topic (shock horror) but Red Barr Radio wrote

Is this true? Am I wasting my time? Most of the casts I vote for don't ask for the votes but I figure they like it when it happens. That they don't give a d*** I shall have to seriously consider.
If I didn't do the voting thing that would be at least 16 minutes of my life back each month. Imagine what I could do.....

I think that's something of an overstatement. It's also based on just one person's opinion.
If I didn't do the voting thing that would be at least 16 minutes of my life back each month. Imagine what I could do.....
You're asking us what you should do with 16 minutes of your life? You sure that's wise?
(I know: put it up for a vote!) >8->

It's no surprise that Mike continues to not understand the podcast community. Mike I would have thought you would have learned a thing or two. Maybe you should listen to more podcasts because the reasons why voting are important are noted very well by many of the podcasts I listen to.
As noted earlier, voting can help raise the profile and exposure of shows. Moreover, as a podcaster it can help you track the loyalty of the audience, which is why I like the monthly voting.
As a podcast listener I do value my time and so each month the podcasts I vote for does vary. Shows that have dropped off in quality no longer get my votes. Shows that have come on the radar and are doing a great job get my votes as a way to provide positive feedback for the podcaster.
And of course, we have our media stars. Does Adam Curry "really" need my vote each month? Probably not. But you know what, I still love the DSC and if Podcast Alley provide a forum to vote for my favorites, well, Adam gets a vote too.
I suppose the other issue is my bewilderment at podcasters who don't even vote for their own show. Shows with zero votes lose credibility in my mind.

If only we could vote for our own shows! 7 people have tried to vote for my show and the only vote is the admin testing it out.
I dare anyone to vote for my show and tell me it works, admins dont count!

Anyone logged in should be able to vote... it's the email confirmation that is not working as far as I know.
