At first it sounds like Amazon's A9. (huh - Amazon web search and yellow pages?) Here' a couple ideas:

Voice Auctions - just like real auctions, but on line... going once going twice sold to Skype 1234!

Small Business Play - eBay isn't just old ladies selling things that they knitted. There are a lot of small businesses. eBay could offer VOIP services to their members and make it easy for small businesses to sign up for premium services to increase eBay's revenue stream

Community - its a community of buyers and sellers - rather than just email a seller, skype them to ask your question about their autographed copy of Harry Potter #5.

etc.

I see a lot of synergies that eBay could bring to bear with VOIP. Maybe they feel if they own it they can customize the experience they need. Or maybe they feel Skype was undervalued and too good to not pick up.

as long as we all get to keep using the client for interviews, etc. i am ok with all this.
