There are a lot of good podcasts out there that barely make impressions on listeners. Here's my list of podcasts that should be giving more credit and popularity:
1. LunaticRadio.com (internet talk radio show)
2. Preston and Steve (podcast of a Philly-based morning show on WMMR)
3. The Best of Mikey and Jimmy (former mixed show based in New York)
4. The Sound of Young America
There are more out there I'm sure but these are the ones that should be given more credit. Does anybody agree or disagree?

I have 3 on my list that fit that category.....
bibb and yaz..... used to be in the top 50, now for some reason they fell off the map
nippon goro goro..... this is a gentleman who lives in tokyo, and does nice random news stories on certain national topics concerning japan. sounds as professional as a newscaster can get
the real happy hour..... they do about 1 show a month, and can honestly be so funny that i will laugh out loud continuously for the whole hour or so of their show

I pretty much agree that these podcasts do not get the credit they well deserve. I found out about Mikey and Jimmy and LunaticRadio.com when they were ranked in the top 10 of one of the less popular podcasting sites. In my opinion both shows are great. However on this site they never are mentioned as even being in the top 200.
Another reason why Mikey and Jimmy do not make a huge impact in the podcasting world is because they rarely put out new shows. If they did put some new podcasts out on a more regular basis then they may be able to at least make it to the top 50, or even the top 30. (Mikey and Jimmy aren't really top 10 material in my opinion).
Also I feel that Bob and AJ, Vox Monitor, and Red Bar Radio should be up a little bit higher in the rankings as well.

What should be higher and why?
1. Preston and Steve - I listen to their morning show which is based in Philly but can be heard in Atlantic City. The show is hilarious.
2. Bob and AJ- also deserve more credit.
3. The Metal Show- on 92.3 Xtreme in Cleveland. Love the music!
4. Top of the Pods - great show. period.
*As for Mikey and Jimmy, I gave these guys a chance and i just couldn't get into it. across the board these guys are lame. they are underrated because i'm pretty sure that after 10 minutes, people tune them out. no offense to the people that like them (my best friend loves them), but they do suck!

First of all I do appreciate the feedback, but you could at least tell me what made my podcast so lame. Don't get me wrong there are people that feel the same way you do and that's okay. But I think it would make more sense for you to share what u did and didn't like about it.
I also agree that my podcast is underrated and I wish I could be at the status that Free Talk Live, Dawn and Drew and Soccergirl are at. But I'd rather have a small loyal fanbase than a huge "here today, gone tomorrow" fanbase. The people that listen to and are fans of "The Best of Mikey and Jimmy" do show love. It would be nice to be on the top 50 just once though.

My vote would be for Chub Creek (http://www.chubcreek.com). Not sure if that's insulting saying they are 'underrated' - but they definitely are good and perhaps not noticed as much as others.

There are no underrated podcasts. Only underrated podcasters.
(actually I was going for that "there are no small parts, only small actors" thing...but I don't think it worked)

No, not quite.
And the original “no small parts saying isn’t accurate either. There are quite a few small parts, especially during nude scenes.

Wow, thank you so much! I think that's officially the first time we've ever been mentioned in this context. It's so nice!

Well, I'm naturally going to be a bit biased as you and Buttons are reading my 3 chapter story :D. I woulda said it anyway, as it is a good and entertaining show.

I have to agree with Bibb and Yaz and the Metal Show. Both great shows that should get more attention.
Along with Jawbone radio. ;)

The Monster Feet Variety Show, a ten minute weekly comedy show, started out pretty good and has been getting better with each show. They’ve become one of my favorite comedy casts.
The Real Happy Hour is very, very funny but, unfortunately, published very, very rarely.
One of my favorite music shows seldom gets near the top of the list: Bandtrax. Well done and well produced, but what really makes it stand out is the music selection, which is top notch.

The Bill And Dan Show (http://www.podcastalley.com/podcast_details.php?pod_id=2658)
This is a great laugh out loud comedy podcast by 2 comedians. (no prizes for guessing their names) They have recently fallen down the chart becuase of an error with Podcast Alley not accepting votes for them.
Highly recomended.

The Sounds in My Head
In a perfect world, you'd hear The Sounds in My Head when you turned on the radio. Outstanding music, great commentary, very high production values. I have no idea why this one hasn't climbed high in the rankings. This is the only podcast with shows I listen to multiple times.

My favorite podcasts that almost no one talks about is History According to Bob. The audio is terrible but the content is wondertful.

My list is short: The Real Happy Hour. I had to stop listening to it while commuting by train because I couldn't supress my laughter. The drunker they get, the funnier they get.

Thanks, Swinglow... We do OK in listeners, but don't always get the respect I feel we deserve in podcasting-specific circles. Your kind words are appreciated.

Hmmm... .maybe I'm just an 'old podcaster' around here, but I always figured that most people that get into podcasting have indeed heard of PK&J - but, yes I agree, they do a great show!

i think any podcast that never does the same show twice or only sometimes does, or at least has the ambition of never doing the same show twice deserves to be less than underrated.

The Mister Mark Show podcast isn't underrated. Those who listen to the show are HUGE fans. So underrated, no. Obscure, yes.
If you're looking for a show where each episode follows the strategy of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds, then this is the show for you. There are new episodes each Friday and they are usually under five minutes. Last week's episode talked about Caligula, alien autopsies and a message brought to you by huge corporations.
The Mister Mark Show podcast web site is at http://www.mistermarkshow.com and you can subscribe by iTunes or by http://feeds.feedburner.com/TheMisterMarkShow
