Nintendo just released their first podcast and the K9Cast blog has the scoop: http://www.k9cast.com/2005/08/more-on-nintendogsnintendos-first.html
Very cool! They say their will be more and that they will be setting up an RSS feed and such for it and that it may eventually be called Nintendo DSFM. Does Microsoft or Sony have podcasts for their respective gaming systems?
The timing of this is interesting because the Play-Yan mp3/multimedia add-on player for the Nintendo DS and GBA may see a US release date in "late 2005" according to wikipedia. Nintendo could be planning to turn DS and GBAs into podcast players! With over 50 million Gameboy Advance units sold that's alot of listeners!

Without an RSS feed it's just an MP3 file, not a podcast. Nintendo is not podcasting yet!

Ok Craig lets continue the conversation we started on the first "podcast" from space (http://www.podcastalley.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=23842#23842) :)
This was our last exchange:
No its not, it's an audio file. It's an audio file that gets played in a podcast perhaps, but it's just an audio file.
I'll agree with you that it's an audio file, but let me ask you this question as to whether it's "just" an audio file: We have a fair chunk of listeners who just download our show directly through a link on the website to an mp3 file we post. Are they listening to a podcast or just an audio file?
Now I agree with you that an RSS feed is essential to making a podcast a podcast and the good news is that Nintendo is working on putting up an RSS feed. So I think that if the intent is there to get an RSS feed going then I say we just call it a podcast :)
It's important to note who'se producing the podcast for Nintendo: Carl Franklin (http://weblogs.asp.net/cfranklin), a real podcast pioneer (he's listed as one at indiepodder.org). The guy knows what he is doing and I'm sure he will do it right!

I gotta side with celerity here... As Episode 1 of my own podcast predated the public feed for the podcast.
I guess it all depends on the meaning we choose to imbue on the word "podcast".
