I use iTunes for downloading my podcasts now (switched from iPodder a few weeks ago).

I have iTunes set to download all new episodes each time it checks for podcasts

Every now and then (once a week maybe) it will download all the old episodes of a particular show...e.g the new episode is number 15 and it downloads that but then downloads episodes 14-1 even though I've already downloaded them and listened to them (and in most case deleted them).

It's not always the same show (it's happened to 3 or 4).

I usually do my downloading overnight so I'm fast asleep when this happens.

It's annoying and I wish it would stop (I do have limted bandwidth available in my broadband account...don't want to waste it downloading the same thing over and over again).

Any suggestions?

One thing you might be able to try is to go into each new feed, right click on each episode that you don't want to download, and choose "Clear", which will make it disappear. As far as I know, iTunes won't try to replace those episodes in the feed, so you should be good to go. It could be a pain the first time you subscribe to a feed, but hopefully it'll only be a pain that once...

I've noticed this happening occasionally in iTunes, but in those cases I think is was because the feed had been moved between hosting providers, or the XML file had been completely replaced by a new one, but with the same enclosures (although for some reason iTunes thought they were new).

It has never downloaded ALL past episodes from a show I subscribe to, but ever once in a while I will get the occasional "old" episode out of nowhere. It happens with just 3 or 4 of the ones I subscribe to. There seems to be no consistency or reason for it.
