Hi, starting a new podcast.
Where do I stand recreating for podcast old bbc radio comedy scripts?
Shows were all broadcast circa 50's 60's and we re-enact our own transcriptions of these once a month to a small audience of like minded crack-pots.
Any advice would be gratefully received.

It's quite possible that there are still active copyright protections in place, and there may even be somebody selling audio programs of the original material.
If there is a commercial licensed re-seller of the original program audio, he or she would likely object to what you would be doing.
There are two pieces of intellectual property involved: the scripts and the original performances. All you need is permission to use the scripts.
Contact a comprehensive audio supplier to see if there is a licensed a re-seller of the original performances. Even if there is, you could still be in luck if they didn't also nail down exclusive rights to the scripts as well. The Beeb could probably tell you that and give you permission to use them as well.
Be advised: This is NOT legal advice. I know a tiny bit about US copyright law, and nothing of British.

Hi AJ, thanks for a prompt reply.
You guessed right, the original material is still commercially available - sold by the beeb themselves.
So I guess it's back to the drawing board - and use our own scripts written by one of our number. The scripts are in a similar vein using the same characters and endorsed by one of the original BBC show scriptwriters.
Cheers for now.

It's certainly no Goon Show, but the IMAO Podcast is a sketch comedy worth checking out:

Well, if it were me, I think I would contact the beeb and see if they'll let you use the scripts.
Pitch it to them as an homage -- promotion for what they're selling. Maybe even offer to include a promo in the closing of your programme.
You've got nothing to lose.
And please give us a link to your podcast when you launch.

You sould contact the BBC directly. You'll probably have to pay for to do it.

Two things:
1) Your link in your Feb4 post is broken. You put an extra 's' in there.
2) This doesn't appear to be a podcast, but is instead a streaming audio or osmething? Why not just give us the mp3 and a feed so we can listen to it in our players on the bus like we want to?
I'd like to hear your show, but feed aggregators and mp3 players have totally spoiled me, and I will never remember to actually go to your site and download your show.

Hi, links now work fine - thanks for the heads up.
The download will be available next week, so please treat the stream as a teaser.
The reason for this, the guys themselves have not yet heard the recordings themselves (but will have before this weekend).
Sorry about the delay, I will post when download is ready.
Working on a rss feed, but unsure about how to code.
