View Full Version : Which podcasts could be better?

I figured that since everyone talks about the podcasts that they love, we can talk about the ones we can't stand. Here's my list:

1) Red Bar Radio- this show is so annoying!
2) Soccergirl- everyone told me that this show is popular and that i should check it out. she's not funny and she has this i'm better than you attitude. to top it off, SHE'S NOT EVEN ALL THAT HOTT
3) Keith and the Girl- i'd rather listen to dawn and drew
4) The Bitterest Pill

If anyone wants to defend why these podcasts are good I'll be more than happy to respond

I mostly agree with you, except for Keith and the Girl. I find them hilarious, but to each his own, dude.

Sometimes I hate our own podcast. :?

ya, the bitterest pill does suck! dan klass (or however he spells it) seems like a real uppity person.... the show is very dry IMO...... and keith and teh girl do an entire episode on why you shouldn't listen to him... it was quite entertaining!

The Starkcast (Stark Cast?) get my vote as the biggest stinker. JimK is relentlessly foul-mouthed (and I'm NO prude, believe me), and ill-informed. Although he claims to have no use for extremists at BOTH ends of the American political spectrum, just a couple of listens to his audio vomitus made it plain to me that he's a shill for the right wing.

The Starkcast is clearly a vanity project by someone who hasn't heeded some sage advice from Mark Twain: "It is better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt."

Woo hoo! Another person from Atlanta!

I'm not sure if I 'hate' any show enough to make the blanket statement. Mainly because still to this day I don't know what accounts for individual taste.

I could tell you what I tried to listen to and why I don't now. I used to do a lot of entertainment reviews for music and such for a local rag-mag type paper in Vegas. I always tried to make sure I *knew* who the show/music/movie was aimed for, and tried to think if that person would like it.

Take for example...

Soccergirl

I don't really get much out of that type of entertainment. BUT Soccergirl as a person is very cool. AND her show, even though I don't really get too much from that type show... I DO realize why she is popular with a large group of people.

When it comes to art and entertainment, the more you try to tell someone else NOT to like something the more they want to see/hear it.

I think it's super simple to put down amateur podcasts and podcasters (because they are...um... amateurs! - lol). But what is so cool about this method of distribution and the variety of people's tastes are that shows that any individual might consider 'lousy' still get an audience and sometimes quite large because others think it's 'great'.

I could take the top 100 podcast alley podcasts and point out faults with all of them - you could too. You listen to what appeals to YOU and at the end of the day, that turns out to be a very personal thing.

Normally, I'm not the one to get into a heated debate here on the forums, or call people out, but I'm getting sick of these threads. I'm pretty easy-going, and it takes a lot to tick me off (not that this thread really does that ... it's more annoying than anything). But I just don't see the good in this topic. I agree with Jeff. It's very easy to destroy than to create. And WE ARE ALL AMATEURS here.

With main stream media trying to tear us down and horde in on our indie territory at the same time, what good is it to rip each other apart? We need to be working together. Give constructive criticism. And how about personally e-mailing the podcaster and giving feedback instead of raking them over the coals in a public forum.

Yes, there are faults with even the best podcasts, and unless you have professional training in sound, broadcasting and writing, don't expect to have The Late Show running through your ears. Like everybody else says here, if you don't like something, unsubscribe and move one. But let's please stop stabbing each other in the back.

I'm out.

I resent this thread-

I know I could have overlooked it, never even posted here- but I had to say, I personally resent this thread.

Must add that we do not hate any podcast or podcaster out there.

I don't think its a great idea to be like I hate _____ podcast.

You can gain nothing from it.

Don't get me wrong-

There are shows that I really do not like to listen to-
but there is also music I REALLY do not like to listen to (brittney spears/sublime/hansen/gwar/post Gish Smashing Pumpkins etc..)
-but I don't hate the performers or hate their music or what passes for music.

OK- just my two C E N T S!

to the original poster- what did you hope to gain from this thread?
However I must agree, I get absolutely nothing from the Soccergirl show, or soccergirl. But I don't hate her or the show. I don't even know her.
She never did anything to me.

I don't know how you can put down the Bitterest Pill. Dan does a great show. Maybe you need to be a parent to appreciate it? My only complaint is he doesn't do the show often enough.

ok maybe i shouldn't have used the word hate. i'll say "which ones do u think could be better" or "which ones do not float your boat" or "what are your least favorite podcasts".

the reason for this post is to see which podcasts do people not choose to listen to and why. every podcaster can learn from this post and find out what they can do to make their podcast more enjoyable.

no disrespect to anyone, it's just basically giving your opinion because let's face it, people are not going to like a certain podcast for certain reasons. i'm just curious to know who doesn't like what and why.

this title isn't really any better.

EVERY podcast can be better in some way or the other...

I guess I just don't get it.

Taste in podcast are so subjective. It's just like music or art. Because you don't like a podcast we should all learn from your opinion and change all podcast to fit in your little bubble.

Someone must like those shows if they are still doing them.

Relentlessly foul-mouthed.

I LOVE THAT. Can is use it on a t-shirt and quote you?

BTW: Wouldn't it be fun to be a mod and see who's IP address matches up with this one-post newbie? :)

One of the great things about podcasts is that they don't need to appeal to a wide audience in order to be successful. This is not network TV where every show needs to please the most number of people (aka: the lowest common denominator). I think it is great that there are shows I like that other don’t and vice versa. But even for the shows I don’t really care for I would say ‘keep on casting’, it’s the wide choice of narrowcasting that makes this so cool.

BTW, What would be really interesting is seeing some stats like they have on Amazon … eg people who listen to this show also listen to this show.

BTW 2: for a great show or maybe a bad show, listen to ours! smellymoneys.com

I subscribe to about 20 podcasts. I choose not to listen to the rest.

Hope this wasn't too controversial or confrontational, but that's just the way I feel.

Nobody can say that I'm afraid to take a stand.

The best response ... ever... ... I really need to subscribe to your show....

Isn't it true though? If it was a bad podcast, why would you even choose to listen? Everyone has different tastes.

There is a link for every channel to a list of the subscribers, and every user in that list has a link to what shows they are subscribed to. I would imagine it would be fairly simple to analyze ever user in the subscribers list and make a list of the top 10 channels that the subscribers of a certain show also subscribe to.

It can kind of be done now (what do subscribers of this show like), but there's no overall ranking across all subscribers.

Hey guys. Usually I don't participate in threads involved in bashing my show, but I did want to say that the last thing I am is holier than thou. Really. Also, if you have constructive suggestions I'd love to hear them. You can email me at soccergirlincorporated@gmail.com

I hope someone is getting something out of all the nasty comments at my expense in the meantime.

Oh, also, someone said something about not being entertained my my "type of show". I'm honestly so curious, what type of show do I have?

being a parent has nothing to do with my opinion (and i am a parent by the way even though it is irelevant), I just think he is a little on the lame side for me. I listen to keith and the girl, and got all my info on dan klass from their show on him.......

yes i do love one sided stories..... what of it?

frankly, I don't understand why there is so much hostility to this thread.

I think it's a reasonable question to ask.

Although I must admit, I'm glad not to see Vox Monitor mentioned herein.

Maybe I should jsut keep my mouth shut and quietly go visit another thread.

I think the hostility is coming from the original title of the thread,

"Which Podcasts do you Hate."

Craig later so graciously changed it to "which ... could be better"
