LA Podcasters Dan Klass of The Bitterest Pill, local NPR radio station KCRW and Lance Anderson of the Verge of the Fringe (that's me) were featured on NBC4 here in Los Angeles. You can watch the Quicktime file here:

Very cool. Thanks Lance.

This was actually very well done, so kudos to the NBC4 folks. Only complaint I had was the quote that mentioned that "most major broadcasters offer podcasts" ... not yet...

Plus, it's always nice to place a face with a voice. I never knew Dan Klass was Craig Patchett's long lost brother! :D

Boy, I can never get enough of the witty, zany banter between local news anchors in the US.

Lance, the dramatic lighting on you looked good. What was the source?

I've been on Japanese TV & news a few times. What always amazed me was how contrived it was. They arrived already knowing the story they wanted to tell, and did their best to shape reality to fit it.

Thanks for the feedback guys.... Rich, the lighting was a mix of late afternoon natural light and just one fill light on a stand. My place was (I've since moved upstairs) kind of cavernous, so maybe that helped give it an edge.

Congrats guys! I have to agree - that was one of the best pieces in the mainstream media I've seen on podcasting - kudos to NBC4. Short, to the point, and definitely exciting to people that haven't heard of podcasting. And Lance and Dan - you guys did us proud!

Thankfully there was no 'Wayne's World of Radio' references....

Good job. A couple of questions:

How did the local NBC affiliate approach you about a story on your podcast? Was it totally out of the blue or did you "know a guy that knows a guy" at the station?

The reason we ask is because the IMAO Podcast is unique in that we have eight contributors across four time zones brought together by inexpensive Internet technologies and that sounds like an interesting story for mass media.

Dumb luck.... I had started a local meetup group called LA Podcasters and when the producer at NBC was doing research, she Googled the words "LA Podcasters". She wrote me an email, then I told her about Klass.... You can hear some of the behind the scenes stories, if you listen to this live experimental podcast I did last Friday night with Dan Klass. (Please excuse the audio during the Q & A). Here's the link to the mp3:
