It seems I need to invest in an actual website for this podcast thing. I also plan to use it for my busness and second podcast. The pages will be low end built in word or rapidweaver so they won't take up much space.

Is this a good deal, I have no idea how to figure out what I need.

(approx. $8 USD / month)

+ 1GB Web Space
+ Unchoked 100MB/s Transfer Rate

+ Free 24/7 Tech Support

Not a bad deal, but I need to stay canadian. There is more space, but less traffic. (I am not staying Canadian because I dislike america it is simply easier. When ever I have post on boards that I am prefer buying canadian people take offence.)

Thanx for the quick responce.

8GB/ mo might not be enough, depending on how large your mp3 files are and how many listeners you get. Its seems kind of low, even on a small scale. Are you locked in to more than one month at a time? You "might" be okay your first month, but getting a bill at the end of the month because you've served xGB over your allotment can be a painful suprise.

Hey okatoks, I don't usually run into people on boards this close to home. Hope you got dried out.

Ya an surprise bill would suck. As I say I don't really know how to judge traffic. I hope the two cast will draw some listeners and I hope the website will be popular but I don't really know. I will check if I can upgrade if I become popular. (oh how I dream)

Well I have spent the day shopping for space. I can't find anything better than the above. Most have higher bandwidth but under 200mb of space which seems like too little. Has anyone used Citymax?

Okotoks, I totally missed your link, I will check it out.

Hey fellow Canuck!

I use these guys http://web.tera-byte.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=services.shared I am signed up with the 4R plan and I pay the yearly fee. They always have a Xmas deal if you pay for another year they through in 6 more months free (and the last special they gave me 50GB transfer!!!). I have been with them almost 3 years and the service has been great.

I have several websites hosted on my account and my podcast has been fine there since April but I am starting to hit the 25GB mark and I am hoping my audience will increase so I might be moving the MP3s eventually. I don't want to get any unexpected bill (ie $5 for each GB over).

8GB / month Traffic is not a good thing... our podcast is rather small compared to a lot of them out there and we are close to doing 70GB this month. The plans sounds good for hosting the page but you may want to find somewhere else to host the mp3's. We use podlot and it is working great for us!
good luck, ill be tuning in.

Okay they look great, but is 400mb enough? My cast seem to be about 1mb per min that would allow me about 20 ,20 minute shows. You mentioned that you have several websites host on your account, can you have different domains on one account? (I am really new to this, I have only ever built simple webpages on my isp account, 20 mb.)

I haven't had any problems yet. I just looked at the Xmas 2004 special I took advantage of and they doubled everything. I got 2 years for the price of 1 AND 50GB transfer plus 800MB space.

I have 6 different websites that I run. Only one is attached to my account. For the others I use a free url forwarding service. For example when you go to http://ceasars-palace.net you can't tell the page is really located at http://marilynmonroe.ca/ceasar

Hope that helps.

Try start logic http://www.startlogic.com/

They are running a special this weekend. Its 5 GB of storage and 100GB transfer a month. Yes, you did read that right. That's 100 gigs of data transfer per month

Its less than $7.50 a month with the weekend special.

Message boards are a great learning tool. I now have three to consider. Thanx for the tip on forwarding, marilynfan, I did not know you could do that. By the way, ceasars page almost made me cry I had to stop reading. (we lost our ausie too young as well.)

I noticed that starlogic has a web builder tool. That is appealling, I think.

I use dreamhost.com although not to podcast ( yet ).

Will be doing the podcasting thing shortly. For I have just recently ( yesterday ) got my first one up and running correctly being able to subscribe and all that good stuff.

But dreamhost you get 4.8gigs of storage and 120gigs of bandwidth a month and each week you get an extra 40mbs of storage and 1gig of bandwidth. And its cheap! Use promotion code "55OFF" to get 55bucks off when you sign up for their "Crazy Domain Insane" hosting for one year prepaid/full payment.

So a full year of hosting plus a domain name costs you $64.40 a year. I have 6 domains with them. Great service. I dont know how these other places charges or how there service is. But I have enough storage and bandwidth across my 6 domains to help with the distribution of my podcasts if I ever get that big. Thats 720gigs of bandwidth per month. I hope I get that big, lol as everyone else would hope they do as well.

Just thought I would through this out there.

Kickass Podcast Hosting:

1 Gig Storage
Unlimited Bandwidth

$5 USD

Jack B.

BTW- Did over 15G in traffic, last night.

We archive 38 hour long shows, have all our web files and images uploaded, and host other podcasts and still only use 2.1 gigs. The web storage thing is where they fool you into thinking you are getting a deal. Its the bandwidth thats expensive. This is why we offer unlimited bandwidth to everyone* for 5 bucks a month. Actually its like 4 and change after paypal.

Note* must be friendly, honest person.

Virtual Domains Hosted use SMT v4.1 Cpanel and Statistics Server Live Stats 5.0, really detailed live reports on anything from browser tags (subscribers) to new url referrals. Pretty much everything.

I use Dreamhost. They had a deal where if you use coupon code 777 you would get a rate of $0.77/mo. Not bad, imo.

To host the MP3 files of my podcast, I use OurMedia.org/Archive.org. No problems with them as of yet. And can't beat the price (read: FREE).

YO

I just found this host tonight that offers 100% free hosting.
most of the time when hosts are free you cant use your own domain name ( you have to use a sub domain of their name) but with them you CAN!

also you get a ton of bandwidth storage and features...

It comes with cPanel and from what I can see so far it is a fully functional web hosting with all the bells and whistles.

The only limitation that I have found so far is that you cant store files that are larger then 5 mb so you cant use if as a storage server..

And did I mention its free?

The funny thing is the control panel that have ( cPanel 11) is a newer and nicer version then I have on the 2 servers that I pay for.

I am psyched about it to say the least. What do you guys think?
