how do you get someone to vote for your podcast? and how do you get to be interviewed?

Gonna make this short:

1. Create a fanbase, give them a reason to vote. Promo. And/Or beg.
2. Again, give people a reason to, be interesting and let them know it.

Yeah, begging seems to be key, which is one of the reasons I don't get many votes. Or not even begging, per se, but just banging that drum every podcast -- saying it's really important that you vote because it increases visibility for the show, yada yada.

I'm also going to agree with the scary looking dude above and say the rapport with your audience is critical, and if you're going to ask for the votes you've got to do it wholeheartedly. Make people understand it's important to you, for whatever reason, and if they like you maybe they'll do it.

As far as getting interviews, it would probably help to be in the PCA top 100 at least, so, yeah, catch-22 baby.

As far as votes go, we ask on the first show of the new month and then mean to ask in other shows, but always forget.... although I don't think it really matters that much. We seem to end up with similar votes / month regardless of our 'asking' activity.

Interviews? Pat and I suck at marketing so we've never tried it but it SEEMS that most folks that do interviews with podcasters are happy to get you in their queue. So I would just send emails to shows you like that do that and ask them. Give them a reason why their podcast would benefit from an interview with you and chances are, you''ll get in their queue. I dunno. Who does interviews with podcasters? Rob from Podcast 411 comes to mind but I'm not sure who else does them (but I'll bet others around these boards keep track of this stuff and would know this).

Rob's got one of the more popular shows of this type, so if you are a new podcast and relatively unknown I would probably start with a smaller interview podcast to up your chances of getting a quicker interview placement.

I think the key to getting votes is putting on a good, well produced and consistant show. Begging for votes, IMO, is lame.
