I have been working with a couple of friends on a new open-source
podcatching client and I think we're ready to release the BETA for
some outside testing.

Just what the world needs, right?

Actually, this program is unique in that it lives on your MP3 player.
If your player connects to your computer as a drive, then this program
will work. It operates under Windows, MAC OSX, and Linux... although
the MAC and Linux operation is highly experimental at the moment.

The key is, it needs no installation and adds nothing to the host
computer. And since it lives on your player, you take your
subscriptions with you where ever you go. Just plug it into a computer,
and it downloads the latest podcasts.

And if you leave it in your machine overnight, you can set it up to
download automatically at a specific time...the best of both worlds.

If you want to give it a try and provide a little feedback (after all,
it is a beta) please check it out at http://www.mypodder.org

Sounds like a very cool idea, but how does using the iRiver as a USB device degrade the sound quality?

Well, I remember Patchet once saying that the firmware upgrade on the 799 that gives you the ability to treat it as a hard drive also reduces sound quality. I'll look around to see if I can find that post.

All,

I just wanted to give this software it's due respect...

It is truly awesome, especially for those of us who don't have an i-CHOD.

I have this loaded onto an MP3 USB stick.

I plug it in to my PC overnight and it is scheduled to download at 4am, I get up, unplug and off I go. I can also then plug it in when I am at work and download any new podcasts for my journey home. It also handles proxy servers with ease (great for work). This is by far my favourite podcatcher so far. If you haven't done already you must check it our.

it would be cooler if it were wifi... but then you would need an os and all sorts of stuff. but some day all you will need is the player!
